In November 1948, the Department of Physical Education was founded in Chelyabinsk Polytechnic Institute (nowadays it is South Ural State University). This date can be taken as a reference point in the history of the Development of Physical Culture and Sports in our university. Since this date a number of high-class athletes, known not only in Russia but also abroad, have been being part of the Department.
In the early years the Department of Physical Education, headed by Boris Iakovlevich Peisakhov, did not even have the training hall. That was why all classes were given in a forested area and limited to ski training in winter and athletics and sports games. When the Palace of Sports with halls for wrestling, boxing, gymnastics, weightlifting, volleyball and basketball, and ice hockey rink with bleachers, ski resort, athletics arena was built, the development of physical culture and sports in particular has gained a new impetus, intensifies in recent years by the emergence of Sports and Training Center.
