On October 23, a meeting of Interagency Coordination Council for Tourism Development under the Governor of the Chelyabinsk Region took place. Among participants of the event was Director of South Ural State University’s Institute of Sport, Tourism and Service, Vadim Erlikh.
On October 15, an International Online Olympiad on the Russian Language as a Foreign Language began. Pushkin Institute Research, Education and Coordination Centre organized the Olympiad for the Foreign Students studying abroad as well as at the universities of Russia.
Establishment of digital economics and switching to Industry 4.0 is the strategy goal of Russia. Improvement of traffic infrastructure plays a very important role in this process. Scientists of South Ural State University within the AutoNet national technology initiative are working on the Smart Transportation project, in the frameworks of which an intelligent system for control over the city traffic system is to be created. The project will feature large industrial and IT companies of the country, as well as the city administration of Chelyabinsk.
A team of 45 scientists, formed at South Ural State University, completed an interdisciplinary research project. The result of two-years-long work is a 400-page-thick monograph entitled “Private Law Principles” published by the largest Russian publishing house called Prospekt.
On October 8th through 19th, delegation of South Ural State University took part in the First Russian-Uzbek Educational Forum entitled “New Employees for the New Economy”. This event was held under support and participation of the President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin and the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev. The Forum became a significant event for development of international cooperation in the sphere of higher education.
Over the 75 years of its history South Ural State University has worked its way from Chelyabinsk Mechanical Engineering Institute to a modern Smart-university of digital transformations. From an institute consisting of only two faculties it turned into a national research university and a leading scientific and educational centre. Establishment of economics research-and-development schools of the university is an important phase in its development.

Another science-to-practice conference of the European Journalism Training Association finished at Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (Greece). South Ural State University, which is an institutional member of the European Journalism Training Association, was represented at the Conference by Head of the Department of Journalism and Mass Communication, Dean of the Faculty of Journalism, Liudmila Shesterkina, and Associate Professor of the Department of Journalism and Mass Communication, Candidate of Sciences (Philology), Anna Krasavina.
South Ural State University for the 10th, anniversary, time is going to organize Vmeste (Together) International Festival of Creativity, in which hundreds of talented people of various ages are taking part. The first selection stage is to be held at SUSU on October 27th through 28th of 2018.

Today, on October 23rd, Advertiser’s Day is celebrated in Russia. This is a holiday which unites specialists in the fields of advertising and PR. South Ural State University has educated 250 specialists, many of whom have created a successful career in their fields, including the fields of promotion and advertising. The All-Russian Science-to-practice Conference on Library – Scientific Communication – University has wrapped up at South Ural State University.
In the course of three days the conference participants were studying the most topical issues on the role of libraries at the institutions of higher education. The current problems and prospects of development were being discussed, as well as the role of university libraries in forming of the students’ system of values, and the issues of publication activity and information competence of the users.
This year is the 20th anniversary of profile linguistic education at SUSU. Studying at the Institute of Linguistics and International Communications (ILIC) allows arranging the entire cycle of study at all stages of higher education.
The university arrived at its 75th anniversary with extensive experience and high achievements in science. For example, the scientific school on Organic Chemistry of Condensed Heterocyclic Compounds with a Nitrogen Bridging Atom has been operating successfully for 10 years now.
Today, art spaces are moving more and more towards virtual spaces. Many museums in Russia and around the world have their own virtual twins. Of special note are literary museums. Without leaving your apartment, you can visit museums dedicated to Mikhail Bulgakov, Marina Tsvetaeva, and many other authors. In 2018 our university also joined the process of creating such virtual memorial house museums, as part of a focus on project-based learning.
On October 16 of 2018, events held within the project entitled “Establishment and development of a network of Pushkin Institute Centres in the PRC on the basis of organisations performing education in Russian language” started at Tianjin Foreign Studies University (China). Employee of the Pushkin Institute Research, Education and Coordination Centre, Tatiana Beloglazova, within a meeting with Chinese students of the Faculty of Russian Language, told about development of information technology in Russian language learning.
Each of the SUSU schools or institutes is engaged in project-based education today. The value of such approach to training is that along with theory the future professionals could obtain certain practical skills, which s/he could directly apply in production while joining the process of work. As much as seven Master’s students are involved in the project by the SUSU School of Medical Biology, who travel to test fields, do experiments and analyse their results.
Temporary Head of the British Consulate-General Office in Ekaterinburg John Mitchell became an honorary guest of the degree awarding ceremony.
SUSU has been operating on the basis of School of Business programmes of Great Britain’s Open University since 1992. Within this period, more than 2000 executives and specialists enhanced their qualifications and obtained prestigious international certificates.

On October 25, South Ural University is to organize a massive Psychology Festival, held on the occasion of the university’s 75th anniversary. The event organiser is the Faculty of Psychology of the SUSU Institute of Social Sciences and Humanities.
On October 16, in the Office of the Federal Antimonopoly Service for the Chelyabinsk Region, a public meeting of the Office Community Board devoted to the urgent issues in the sphere of the competitive education took place.
The International Office is one of the most important divisions of SUSU, making an enormous contribution into the fulfilment of the concept of a SMART university which unites Europe and Asia. The International Student Support, headed by Ekaterina Yurovskaya, plays a special role in this process.
Starting from September of 2018, SUSU has been officially implementing project-based training within master’s studies. Project-based learning programmes are presented practically in all Schools and Institutes of SUSU.
The Institute of Architecture and Construction held a contest called “Autumn Mood” among freshman students. Future designers and architects had to present their group in a creative format within a limited time.
