January 20th -22nd at the SUSU Higher School of Electronics and Computer SciencesGlobal Game Jam, the largest internation competition for the development of computer games is being held at SUSU. Participants of GGJ are given 48 hours to put together a team and develop a game from scratch according to a given theme at the same time as more than 20,000 programmers, artists, game designers and game lovers from tens of countries.
At the end of December, the SUSU Polytechnic Institute’s Department of Aerospace Engineering hosted some guests – members of the Federal Academic Union (FAC) in large groups of specialties and research areas, Weapons and Weapon Systems and Aviation and Aerospace Technology.

South Ural State University took part in VUZPROMEXPO 2016, an annual national multi-industry exhibition and forum. A theatrical holiday dedicated to the birthday of SUSU called The Union of Science and Achievement will be held on December 15th at 3:00 in SUSU’s conference hall.

Assistant professor of the department of theology, culture, and art, candidate of art history, Evgenia Konysheva was awarded an RAACS Advisor diploma.
The Russian Academy of Architecture and Construction Science (RAACS) is one of four governmental academies of science in the Russian Federation, the top scientific organization in the country for architecture, urban planning, and construction science. The Advisor status is awarded in recognition of achievements in architectural practice, education, or science.
The SUSU department of foreign languages is organizing a seminar on December 19th, Introduction to English as a Medium of Instruction. The creator and moderator of the seminar is Tony Bryan, expert in the area of developing courses for teaching academic disciplines in English.
English as a medium of instruction (EMI) is a growing global trend dominating higher education. In many European countries, more than 70% of courses for graduate and postgraduate students are taught with English as the medium of instruction.
The first meeting of the Supervisory Council was held recently. The creation of the council required a change to the university’s organizational form, from a state budgetary to a state autonomous establishment.
On December 12th and 13th, specialists from the company QS (Quacquarelli Symonds) will visit SUSU. The company carries out expert analyses and annually publishes the leading ratings for the best universities in the world. As part of the execution of the Plan of Events for Realizing the Program for Increasing Competitiveness (“Road Map”), specialists from QS and SUSU will discuss various developments and the implementation of a range of measures for increasing the university’s reputation on the international stage.
South Ural State University became a participant of the 5-100 Project for Increasing the Competitiveness of Leading Russian Universities in 2015. From that moment, some broad changes began at SUSU, one of which was the creation of a University Supervisory Council. The council includes representatives of government agencies and non-governmental organizations, and leading experts and authorities in various fields.
Phillipe Bertrand, deputy director of science and innovations at the National Engineering School of Saint Etienne, read a lecture to SUSU students about laser technologies in the production of 3D-functional items.
This topic was not chosen randomly. Over the course of several years SUSU students have been attending courses for specialist training in this field.
The SUSU Institute of Sport, Tourism, and Service is holding the 1st International Conference in Innovations in Sport, Tourism, and Education icISTaS-2016. The conference is held with support from the Chelyabinsk Region Ministry of Physical Culture and Sport and the Ministry of Education and Science. The head of the organizational committee is ISTaS Vadim Erlikh, doctor of biological science, professor.
