SUSU Student Earned Silver in the Boxing World Championship

 

The Boxing World Championship, which gathered 300 students from 24 countries, was held in Thailand. They gave out 13 sets of medals – 10 among men and 3 among women. Two awards were won by Chelyabinsk boxers. Among them, SUSU master’s student Artem Garashuk, who won silver in the 75 kilogram weight class. The student of coach Sergey Novikov defeated an athlete from the host country and a boxer from Kazakhstan, but lost in the final round to Ukrainian athlete Valeriy Kharlamov.

The Science of Light: Emeritus Professor of the University of Barcelona Held an Open Lecture

The program for the meeting of the Internatinal Science Council included a range of open lectures from leading international researchers on their topics of research. Doctor Maria Zhozefa Yuzuel (Spain) – honored professor of the University of Barcelona, member of the Royal Academies of Science and Art, the Academy of Granada, and the Royal Academy of Zaragoza. Throughout her career she has been awarded national and international awards multiple times. She was a representative and the vice president of the Spanish Optical Society.

The World-Class Plantweb and Uchtechpofi Laboratories were Shown to the International Science Council

A delegation of representatives from the SUSU International Science Council learned about the PlantWeb laboratory of artificial-intelligence based measurement systems which is a joint project between the university, the Emerson company and Metran, the leading Russian company in the development, manufacture, and service of artificial-intelligence based automation.

Sorbent Against Environmental Pollution: International Scientists Impressed By SUSU’s Developments

 

One of SUSU’s breakthrough areas of work in the 5-100 program is the program for developing alternative energy sources including the creation of materials for solar batteries (photosensitizers) which can increase the efficiency of solar batters and reduce costs per energy unit received. Representatives of the SUSU Institute of Natural and Hard Sciences introduced this and other areas of research to the International Science Council in their presentation of the “Materials sciences and natural sciences” block.

Open lectures by world-class scientists are continuing at SUSU. On October 11th, the president of the Emerson company Edward Monser discussed the true meaning of leadership and shared his personal experience as the head of a large corporation.

Mohammed Milad: “Can We Control Anxiety?”

 

On Tuesday October 11th, doctor Mohammed Milad, member of the International Science Council and assistant professor of the Harvard Medical School department of psychology held two lectures at SUSU dedicated to fear. Where the first lecture was mostly dedicated to the nature of this phenomenon, in the second doctor Milad talked about how a person can dull this feeling with the help of medical technology.

The International Science Council Learned About the Asteroid Safety Project

As part of the program for the SUSU International Science Council’s meeting a new event was held: presentation of the block “Engineering Science” for the delegation of international scientists. Representatives of our university touched on a global issue and brought the delegates’ attention to the development of one of the breakthrough areas of university by the university: global asteroid safety (Aerospace Engineering Project).

The First Open Lectures by International Scientists Held at SUSU

 

On October 11th the first open lectures were held by international scientists visiting SUSU as part of an International Science Council meeting.

The marathon of lectures was opened by Mohammed Milad, assistant professor of the Harvard Medical School and director of the laboratory of behavior neurology at Massachusetts General Hospital.

Seven World-class Scientists Will Visit SUSU

 

The International Research Council from South Ural State University is holding its first formal meeting in Chelyabinsk October 10th through the 12th.

The International Research Council is a new structure that has been created at the University to coordinate research and educational activities in accordance with the best international practices.

Similar councils are being created at all the Universities participating in Project 5-100, which is aimed at helping Russian universties enter the top-100 worldwide before 2020. 

SUSU Department Included in the Expert Committee for the Accounting Methodology Center Fund

 

A seminar by the country’s leading methodologist in the area of accounting, Igor Sukharev, and director of the National Nongovernmental Accounting Regulator, the Accounting Methodology Center, Oksana Sukhareva, was held at SUSU. These two are the developers of the leading standards for accounting of fixed assets, inventory, and intangible assets.

World’s Leading Scientists Hold Lectures for SUSU Students

 

October 10th-12th at SUSU the first meeting of the International Science Council (ISC) was held. The goal of this council is to coordinate the university’s research and academic activity with the best world practices. This is one of the most important initiatives for realization of the university’s Road Map program in the 5-100 Project.

SUSU Scientist is among one of the Most Cited According to Leading Science Site

 

Head of the laboratory of crystal growth at the Nanotechnology research center, assistant professor of the Department of Materials Sciences and Materials Physical Chemistry, and chairman of the Society of Young Scientists and Specialists of the Chelyabinsk Oblast, Denis Vinnik, was named SUSU’s most cited author in September 2016 according to the professional scientific social network www.researchgate.net.

On Tuesday, September 27th, South Ural State University attended a delegation for the company Emerson, a leader in the area of system automation in industry and a long-time strategic partner to the university. As part of this business meeting, representatives of the company discussed directions for collaboration with the university.

Conversation Without Borders: the “Dialogue of Eurasian Cultures” Conference was Held at SUSU

 

September 23rd-25th at the SUSU “Science” Recreation Center the 1st International Practical Science Conference, “Dialogue of Eurasian Cultures” was held. Organizers for the conference included the Pushkin Institute methodological and academic center and the Russian as a Foreign Language department of the Institute of Linguistics and International Communication (ILIC).

The President of the Russian Federation Awarded SUSU’s Leading Students

 

An order from the Russian Ministry of Education and Science confirmed the recipients of the Russian Federation Presidential and Government Scholarships for the 2016/2017 academic year. The financial awards are given for outstanding abilities in academic and scientific work (winners of Olympiads, artistic competitions, authors of scientific breakthroughs, two or more inventions, scientific articles in central publications).

SUSU is Establishing a Partnership with Universities from South Korea and Mexico

 

From September 13th through 16th in Liverpool (Great Britain) the 28th Annual Conference and Exhibition of the European Association of International Education was held. This is the main European venue that gathers experts in the area of higher education from all around the world. South Ural State University was presented at a combined booth for Russian universities participating in the 5-100 Project.

An Innovative Model for Bachelor’s Students English Study is Being Released at SUSU

 

In the beginning of September, project 8.1.3, Implementation of a System of Deeper Language Training in Bachelor's Programs, started as part of the 5-100 Project (project initiator – Elena Yaroslavova, project curator – Viktor Katochkov, portfolio director – Liudmila Shestakova.)

International Conference, “The Future of the Eurasian Space”, Was Held at SUSU

International conference “The Future of the Eurasian Space” was held on September 8th at South Ural State University. The government of Chelyabinsk Oblast, Fund for Socio-economic Development “Eurasian Community”, South Ural State University, and the M. Osimi Tajik Technical University participated as organizers of the event.

Experts from Russia, Tajikistan, Kazakhstan, and representatives of expatriates of the Central Asian region in the South Urals and in the Khanty-Mansisk autonomous region participated in the international conference.

SUSU Improved its Position in the National Ratings of the V. Potanin Fund

 

Annual ratings of universities by the V. Potanin Charitable Fund have been published once again. The rating was compiled over the last 12 years at the conclusion of the Fund's academic programs for students and professors and is one of the leading independent ratings of the quality of higher education in Russia.

South Ural State University notably improved its indicators and took the 29th position this year (last year the university was in 42nd place).

SUSU is Strengthening its Partnership with Leading Business Roscosmos

 

Representatives of the leadership of the joint-stock company “N.A. Semikhatov Industrial Scientific Association of Automation Engineers” (Yekaterinburg) visited SUSU to discuss the possibility of cooperation.

Guests were lead on an excursion around the university by SUSU rector Aleksandr Shestakov and laboratory employees.

Students from Freiburg Visited SUSU

 

The School of Russian Language and Culture for German students from the Mining Academy in Freiburg has opened at South Ural State University.

The first thing that struck students was SUSU’s size and the number of people on campus, which is larger than the population of Freiburg. The students were already able to visit the railroad technologies museum and the skating rink at the Uralskaya Molnia sports complex, and got a bird’s eye view of Yekaterinburg.
