Metran, One of SUSU’s Key Partners, Celebrates its Anniversary

On Sunday, September 17th, the manufacturing group Metran, one of SUSU’s key partners, is celebrating its 25th Anniversary.

Measuring and transmitter are the two English words which form the name Metran.

Today, Metran is a leading instrument engineering company and part of a large international company Emerson. It is worth noting that South Ural State University has also contributed to the development of this manufacturing group. After all, the majority of the enterprise’s staff today are graduates of our University. And just two years ago, namely a SUSU student started up their new area of work. Metran employees believe that now, as the concept of Industry 4.0 is being popularized around the world, our University should take a leading position in this area of technology.

“The university must be a mover on all fronts,” says Dmitriy Iosifov, Director of Metran Global Engineering Center.

Instruments for measuring temperature, pressure, level, and flow, distributed control systems, valves and regulators, and metrological equipment are all products manufactured at the enterprise’s production line. The blue Rosemount pressure transmitters are a true Metran trademark. Thanks to the realization of a localization program which lasted more than 10 years, a full line of pressure transducers is now manufactured in Russia. The company also has its own innovative developments, one of which is wireless sensors.

“We guarantee that data is transferred with a high level of accuracy. We say 99.99%. Why? Because we can’t say 100%, as this is a wireless data transmission, but there is a full range of algorithms within the transmitters that check how reliably data is being transferred. Using these indicators, we determine how accurately data is being transferred and whether or not all of it is passed along,” explains Aleksey Filatov, expert on implementing wireless solutions and level gauges.

Right now, Metran manufacturing group is continuing its work on localizing global products and is developing new technologies. One of such technologies is highly accurate, non-intrusive temperature measurement. Such innovations are possible due to a special feature of the enterprise.

“The secret here is that we have a full cycle. We are likely the only enterprise in Russia of this level which has a full cycle – from marketing research to client support, development, manufacturing, and sales,” commented Artem Shparov, Director of the Measurement Systems Production at Rosemount.

Metran manufacturing group is not just breakthrough developments and high-tech production, it is also a space for practical training for SUSU students and their professors, who may get involved in research projects for Emerson at the PlantWeb Laboratory of Intelligent Measurement Systems or in real projects at Metran.

However, equipment innovation and quality is not the only thing that has helped Metran become a leading enterprise. As the top managers note, people are the most important thing for their company. The General Director, a graduate of SUSU, is already sharing secrets of a successful career with future Metran staff.

“I worked as an engineer and builder in the military industrial sector for 18 years. Then I moved into manufacturing, and I can say that this was a very important moment. To have a successful career, you must have versatile experience. So, if you have a chance to gain experience in other areas and you wish your administrative career to work out well, or if you want to become a boss, you must have knowledge, skills and experience in various areas of work,” says Alexander Glazyrin, General Director of Metran.
