The Exhibition “Sustainable Tourism – a Tool for the Region’s Development” Finished at SUSU

 

This week, the exhibition “Sustainable tourism – a tool for the region’s development” for the first time took place at South Ural State University, on the ground of the Department of Tourism and Socio-Cultural Service of the SUSU Institute of Sport, Tourism and Service and the exhibition center of Nationalities and Technology of the South Urals.

The main idea of the exhibition was to demonstrate major achievements of the department over 20 years of its successful operation. Today the Department of Tourism and Socio-Cultural Service is the classic school of tourism at the Ural Federal District.

The exhibition program included a summary conference on the results of regional and international internships of the Department’s students, presentations of diploma papers of the Department of Tourism and Socio-Cultural Service’s graduates, and an entertainment program for guests of the exhibition.

Associate Professor of the Department, Candidate of Sciences in Pedagogy Tatyana Bay noted that presently a close attention at the department is focused on economic component and on teaching students skills of arranging a tour as some project considering its informative, entertaining and economic opportunities.

“Specialist in tourism is a professional who arranges tourist trips. This sphere has always been considered interesting and creative, as you always need to demonstrate your creativity and quick wit. Lately, a closer attention is focused on economic component of tourism. A specialist should be able to calculate cost sheet of a project, develop its technology and economy substantiation, calculate its profitability and efficiency, and forecast the expected flow of tourists. That is exactly why we at our Department focus the main attention on economy, so that our graduates would be in-demand on the labor market,” noted Tatyana Bay.

Overall, during the time of the exhibition’s operating, it was visited by more than 200 people, among whom were representatives of the Ministry of Culture of the Chelyabinsk region, of the Center of Tourism Development of the Chelyabinsk region, employees of the university, students, and school students of the city.

“Realization of such projects is always a collective effort. A whole team of lecturers and professionals and students of the Department of Tourism and Socio-Cultural Service worked over this exhibition under supervision of Professor Tatyana Tretyakova,” comments Deputy Director of the ISTS Olga Frolova.
