Following the SUSU strategy of developing as a “SMART university uniting Europe and Asia” and meeting the demands of the Russian Federation on boosting the economic growth and technological development, improving national security, and on the breakthrough fields of scientific research, the university is focusing on developing big interdisciplinary projects in the fields of digital industry and artificial intelligence.
As part of project-based learning, the staff of the Department of Automation Engineering and Master’s students of the 15.04.05 Design and Engineering Support of Machinery Production major are working on the energy efficiency and environmental friendliness of the process of chrome plating of cylindrical parts using the development of a new technology of a closed plating cycle.
Day of Arab Culture was held at South Ural State University. Representatives of ten countries introduced the audience to the history and traditions of the Arab world and gave colourful performances.
Day of Arab Culture is one of the unique events at SUSU which aims to strengthen international collaboration among the representatives of different countries. Rector Aleksandr Shestakov told us that next year the university will be able to accept even more international students.

On April 9th, the citywide festival of student art, Student Spring of Chelyabinsk 2019, will begin. The festival is held as part of the Russian Student Spring Program for Supporting and Developing Student Art and is the city round of the Russian Student Spring All-Russian Festival.
The festival was founded by the Chelyabinsk Regional Social Organisation of the Russian Social Organisation Russian Union of Youth, and the Department for Youth Affairs of the Chelyabinsk City Administration.
The Nationwide Dictation Quiz is an annual campaign for all those willing to test their knowledge of Russian, regardless of their age, nationality or level of education. Pushkin Institute Research, Education and Coordination Centre jointly with the Department of International Relations, Political Science and Regional Studies is training international students to be taking the Nationwide Dictation Quiz. The classes include solving test tasks, as well as writing different training texts to dictation.
A meeting with representatives of the Embassy of the Republic of South Africa took place at South Ural State University. The delegation included the Minister Plenipotentiary of the South African Embassy in the Russian Federation, Henry William Short, and Secretary of the Embassy’s Political Division, Bender Gunter.

Since that historic year, almost all countries in the world have become WHO members. The tradition to celebrate World Health Day dates back to 1950, and its main purpose is to raise people’s awareness of what health means. Early this year, the Faculty of Journalism of the Institute of Social Sciences and Humanities of South Ural State University has sent creative works by its students and academics for a contest of the World Journalism Education Congress (WJEC-5) to Paris, France.
An exhibition of photos taken by Uvindu Wijeweera, an outstanding student from Sri Lanka aka President of the Association of International Students of Southern Urals, opened at SUSU. The best artworks of the international photographer have been exhibited in the third floor hall of the main building.
The Institute of Linguistics and International Communications of South Ural State University invites postgraduates, students, and young researchers (under 35) to take part in the preparation of STUDIUM JUVENIS collected research papers (Issue 11). This research and methodological publication aims to unite the efforts of young researchers whose interests include important issues in linguistics and intercultural communications theory, linguocultural skills, the use of language in various discourses, linguistic ecology, and regional studies.
A photo entitled “Edinstvo” (“Unity”) by Oleg Igoshin, alumnus of SUSU’s Faculty of Journalism and nowadays Head of the university’s Production Photo Studio Laboratory and editor of the Internet Broadcasting department of the Marketing and Strategic Communications Department, is claimed the best at a contest of the World Journalism Education Congress (WJEC-5). The main goal of the contest for the best journalism artwork among higher schools of journalism around the world was to determine talented students and academics in the sphere of journalism education.
South Ural State University is a multinational higher education institution, in which studying are students from 52 countries. The majority of international students – more than 200 people – are representatives of Arab countries. April 5, SUSU is to organise the Arab Culture Day, where everyone interested will be able to get familiar with their customs and traditions.
March 26th through March 29th an International Conference on Industrial Engineering (Prom-Engineering) was held at South Ural State University.

An exhibition of brand-new equipment produced by German Company called IKA WERKE, one of the world’s leaders in the market of laboratory and analytical technologies, took place at South Ural State University. The event was organised in cooperation with Russian Joint Stock Company called Laboratory Equipment and Devices.
On March 25, 2019 the winners of the 2018 – 2019 Vladimir Potanin Fellowship Programme grants contest were announced. This year’s winner of the grant on developing a Master’s course is Head of the Department of Modern Languages of the Institute of Linguistics and International Communications Ksenia Volchenkova.
