On May 31, the strategy of South Ural State University’s development was presented to the International Scientific Council members. One of the leading directions of the university’s development, discussed within this strategy, was ecology.
South Ural State University has once again welcomed the world's leading scientists in the field of fundamental and computer sciences, engineering, and medicine – members of the International Scientific Council. Within the frameworks of the meetings, they were presented the SUSU's development strategy under three most relevant fields: Digital Industry; Ecology; and Materials Science.
On May 31, International Scientific Council discussed the strategy of South Ural State University’s development in the sphere of Materials Science.
Within the meeting with foreign scientists, three key directions which presently are being actively developing at SUSU were introduced: Metals and Alloys, Composite Materials and Magnetic Materials. It is today already that large-scale research projects are being implementing in these directions, and research articles on these topics get published in high-rank international journals.
In October of 2019, Pokrov Mediation Centre, jointly with South Ural State University (National Research University), will hold a scheduled basic course on the Basics of Dispute Mediation.
May 31st through June 1st of 2019, the International Scientific Council is to meet again at SUSU. The third official meeting will feature the new Chairman of the Council, President of Emerson Corporation, Michael Train, President and Director General of SMS-group Inc., Honorary Professor of SUSU, Pino Tese, Professor of the University of Melbourne, Doctor Ashokkumar Muthupandian, Professor of the Korea Institute for Advanced Study, Doctor Jaewan Kim.
May 31st through June 1st, a meeting of the International Scientific Council (ISC) is to take place at South Ural State University. Leading scientists from different countries as well as executives of the largest companies are going to discuss SUSU’s development in the frameworks of Project 5-100, the programme targeted at enhancement of competitive ability of Russian higher education institutions in the global research-and-education space.
May 23rd through 27th, an offsite seminar with international participants entitled “Regarding philosophy seriously” was held within implementation of a strategic research project of the Department of Philosophy entitled “Philosophical practice in education and science”.
The event featured a visitor from abroad, Lydia Amir, PhD in Philosophy, Philosophy Professor (Beit Berl Academic College, Kfar Saba, Israel and Philosophy Department, Tufts University, Medford, MA, USA).
A conference on the Applied Aspects of Sonochemistry was held at South Ural State University and was devoted to summing up the results of the activity of the Synthesis and Analysis of Food Ingredients International Laboratory.

Folk Academic Male Voice Choir of the Automobile and Tractor Faculty of SUSU (NRU), conducted by the artistic director, merited worker of culture of the Russian Federation, labor veteran, laureate of the prize of the Legislative Assembly of the Chelyabinsk region in the sphere of culture and arts, Nonna Streltsova, took part in the 2nd International Festival-and-Contest of Choirs called “Slavic Spring”, which took place in Saint Petersburg on May 17th through 19th.
Scientists at South Ural State University developed an integrated system for ecological purification of wastewater, recommended for enterprises of the industrial agriculture.
Industrial agriculture notably affects the environment. Agriculture and its industrial enterprises for product recycling produce a considerable amount of organic wastes which quickly decompose and emit toxic substances. Wastewater of these enterprises require special approaches for treatment and disposal of wastes.
Chelyabinsk region is the leading metallurgical center of the country. Multiple enterprises of ferrous and non-ferrous metallurgy are located at the region’s territory. Unfortunately, a lot of industrial wastes get produced at factories of various industrial branches. This not only causes certain difficulties regarding their placement and storage, but also imposes a serious ecological threat. Scientists at South Ural State University are solving the problem of disposal of such wastes by applying them in production of building materials within a project entitled “Ecology”.
Results of the first year of project-based learning – a new educational technology intended to bring education of specialists to a new level – got summarized at South Ural State University. In the course of the conference, students presented results of their work on projects and received recommendations on improvement of the projects from the Rector of SUSU, Aleksandr Shestakov.
As part of the Digital Economy national project, students and scientists of South Ural State University have developed a Funny Garden game application for visually impaired preschool children, which can be used for correction work. The team of engineers have already obtained a patent for the Funny Garden software application. In 2019, based on the existing program code of the game, a continuation for the Seasons game with new visual content was created.
On May 21, the Department of Customs Affairs took part in planting of trees alongside the Universitetskaya Naverezhnaya street in the frameworks of Tsellyuloza (Cellulose) social city project. According to participation terms, a tree shall be planted in Chelyabinsk for each 100 kg of paper wastes collected.
The last Sunday of May is the professional holiday of all working in the chemical and petrochemical industry. The holiday was established by the Decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR dated October 1 of 1980. Workers of the chemical industry are constantly demanded in science, in industry, and in business. One can become a world-class specialist by graduating from the Faculty of Chemistry at South Ural State University.
Russian Library Day is celebrated May 27th – this day is also called Librarian Day. At South Ural State University, the Scientific Library began operating from the moment of the university’s founding on December 15th, 1943. The Scientific Library is one of the most important parts of SUSU’s information space, preserving the results of the university’s research and academic work.
On May 18, the 15th International Science-to-Practice Conference for Young Researchers on Modern Problems in Legal Science was held at South Ural State University. The conference was organised by the SUSU Institute of Law. More than 300 people took part in the conference.
May 25 is Philologist Day in Russia, the celebration of all who “loves the word”. Contemporary philologists work in various sphere of linguistics and literature and make a big contribution to the sphere of education and research of linguistic changes. This holiday is of a special significance for the Department of Russian Language and Literature of the SUSU Institute of Social Sciences and Humanities.
On May 24, students of South Ural State University are going to celebrate the Day of Slavic Writing and Culture. The celebration will feature international students, students of the Institute of Linguistics and International Communications, and students of the Institute of Social Sciences and Humanities.
Within the technology of Industry 4.0 (the 4th industrial revolution), South Ural State University implements a number of prospective student projects, one of which is a “smart” house based on efficient energy consumption and an intelligent smart grid system.
“Smart House” is an innovative residential space which is not only efficient from the perspective of resource consumption (electricity, heat and water) but also well-designed regarding the aesthetics and comfort of its interior as well as its landscape design.
On May 28, a report conference regarding project-based learning is to be held at South Ural State University in Sigma Academic Complex.
The goal of the report conference is to summarize the results of the first year of project-based activity, as well as exchange with experience and present project teams, which have been working hard over the past year. Objectives of the conference are to highlight problematic issues and discuss the prospects of activity for the next year.
On May 16, international students of South Ural State University organised a common late dinner on the occasion of Muslim fasting called Ramadan.
There are more than 2500 international students from 52 countries studying at SUSU. Among them, a big number of students professing Islam. Therefore, in the beginning of May, many international students started fastening within the Muslim Ramadan, which this year will last till June 3.
