September 12th through 13th at MIREA University (Moscow), Samsung Electronics Company held the interuniversity finale of the contest of projects in the sphere of Internet of Things. Participating in the event were graduates of 2018-2019 academic year coming from 7 leading universities of Russia.
South Ural State University keeps transforming: a new student ground for study, leisure and extracurricular activities was opened on September 13 in the university’s inner yard.
On September 11, an exhibition of photos taken by students of SUSU international summer schools, arranged by the Institute of Linguistics and International Communications and the Institute of Architecture and Construction under active support of the Extracurricular Activities Department, has opened on the 3rd floor of the SUSU main building.
On September 12th and 13th, South Ural State University was visited by a professor from the University of Seville (Spain) and member of the SUSU International Research Council, Victorino Franco.
Fundamental Russian science is getting younger. The efforts by the government targeted at this yield tangible results. 36-year-old scientist from SUSU, Doctor of Sciences (Chemistry), Associate Professor Denis Vinnik with solid advantages has become the university’s leader in the number of quality publications over the last academic year (TOP 25 in SCOPUS database). For eight years already, Denis Vinnik is the Head of the Council of Young Scientists and Specialists of the Chelyabinsk region.
A scientist of South Ural State University conducted a thorough study of the Karheh dam (Khuzestan province, Ahvaz district, Hemidiye region, Iran) and processed the data obtained over the 17-year history of its operation. Unique information will become an invaluable source in the construction of new reliable dams. The study was published in the journal Studia Geotechnica et Mechanica, part of the Scopus database.
The Main Directorate for Migration Affairs held a meeting and seminar for employers in relation to changes to Russian law. Administrative staff from the South Ural State University International Office’s Immigration Services Division were present for the meeting.

South Ural State University has entered the THE World University Rankings-2020 from the Times Higher Education Rating Agency for the first time. SUSU took position 1001+. More than 1300 universities from 92 countries around the world were evaluated.
Vitya Student Pedagogical Team (SPT) and Apelsin Student Pedagogical Team planted trees together with attendees of social rehabilitation centres of the city of Chelyabinsk.
Team Vitya visited the social rehabilitation centre of the Metallurgical district. There, team members arranged planting of trees and held a homeroom dedicated to the 15th anniversary of the tragedy in Beslan.
On August 28th of 2019, the team of the Nanotechnology REC gained a new, highly-qualified staff member. Dr. Raja Kumar Kanthapazham (India) is initiating research in the field of organic chemistry at South Ural State University.
Scientists of South Ural State University, within the framework of the national technology initiative AutoNet (the Smart Transport project), have developed a unique intelligent system for monitoring traffic flows using artificial intelligence, which does not require specific recording equipment and can work on almost any type of camera. It is equally important that the system allows you to instantly process data received in real-time, unlike existing programs, where processing is carried out with a delay of up to 10-15 minutes.
November 14th through 16th of 2019, a large-scale forum dedicated to international students studying at higher education institutions of Russia called URAL FEST is to take place at South Ural State University (Chelyabinsk).
Researchers from South Ural State University and the N.D. Zelinsky Institute of Organic Chemistry, Russian Academy of Sciences are studying polysulphur-nitrogen heterocycles – organic compounds which have antiviral properties and can be applied for the treatment of AIDS. Other universities involved in this collaboration include the University of Zurich (Switzerland), University College London (Great Britain), the University of North Carolina (USA), and the University of Eastern Finland (Finland).
On September 7, the Day of the City of Chelyabinsk, South Ural State University tool part in the Parade of First graders held in the Central Park of Culture and Recreation named after Y.A. Gagarin. The large-scale event arranged by Intersvyaz company was held for the 7th time. SUSU presented 12 interactive venues for children where they could learn about the most in-demand professions.
Three teams of young engineers supervised by scientists from South Ural State University and instructors of the Chelyabinsk Quantorium passed the preliminary stage in the frameworks of participation in the international contest called Quantoriada or ICCET 2019. Attendees of Quantorium that has been created at SUSU proposed their unique solutions of problems in the spheres of Smart Power Engineering, Aerotaxi, and Cableway.
South Ural State University is continuing to successfully develop partnerships with Chinese universities. The Ministry of Education of China has proposed to establish novel joint educational organizations of a new format within their country. They will involve development of academic programs with Russia. This is why our colleagues from China are interested in making contacts with Russian universities and in establishing new, promising academic contacts with SUSU.
87 students from People’s Republic of China who have completed SUSU’s Russian Language Summer School started studying at South Ural State University. The period of advanced language learning lasted for one month, after which all the students successfully passed the exam and have been admitted to study highly-demanded majors in engineering, architecture and construction.
Students of South Ural State University have successfully passed selective stages of the 12th International Olympiad in the sphere of information technology IT-Planet 2018/19. Now they are to take part in the final which is to be held within the period from October 4th through 7th in Moscow at MISIS National University of Science and Technology.
Chelyabinsk is getting ready for the main sport event of this fall: All-Russian Festival called All-Russian Physical Education and Sport Complex “Ready for Labor and Defense”, which is to take place on September 19th through 24th at the track and field complex named after E. Elesina. One of the participants competing for the top prizes will be the Ural Hawk team consisting of South Ural State University students.
On the occasion of the Knowledge Day, South Ural State University opened new laboratories: Financial Technology in Business, and Teaching Bank. The new educational spaces of the SUSU School of Economics and Management are fitted with state-of-the-art equipment and aim at students’ mastering economic competences in an interactive mode.
