South Ural State University has successfully completed enrolment for international students to Bachelor’s and Master’s programmes taught in English. As of today, the university has 17 programmes taught in English. Every year students from Iraq, China, Pakistan, Egypt, Bangladesh, India and other countries come to study to SUSU.
A university “Boiling Point” has opened at South Ural State University. This is a space for collective work on innovative projects and for holding educational and other socially-valuable events.
On October 15 of 2019, Head of the Centre of Testing and Language Training, Associate Professor of the Department of Russian as a Foreign Language, Elena Doronina, held an online master class entitled “Training to pass a B2 level certification exam” at the Pushkin Institute Centre of Tianjin Foreign Studies University (TFSU). Taking part in the master class were 26 second-year students of the TFSU Faculty of Russian Language.
In 2017, with the support from SMS Group, a world’s leading manufacturer of metallurgical equipment, South Ural State University opened an international research Laboratory of Mechanics, Laser Processes and Digital Production Technologies, which was headed by Professor of the National Engineering School of Saint-Étienne Philippe Bertrand. The laboratory supervisor on behalf of SUSU, Candidate of Sciences (Engineering), Associate Professor Marina Samodurova shared on the main fields of research.
A big-scale URAL FEST International Students Forum on training international students in Russian universities will be held at South Ural State University November 14th through November 16th, 2019.
This event will bring together students and alumni from different countries, who chose the Ural Federal District universities to gain prestigious higher education. The forum will touch upon burning issues faced by international students.
South Ural State University together with Lyceum No.11 of the city of Chelyabinsk arranged field trips for schoolchildren to hold outdoors master classes in Lesnaya Zastava Children’s Camp. Specialists from SUSU Schools and Institutes showed the soon-to-be university applicants how and what is studied by students of the university.
South Ural State University is planning to start collaborating with one of the major universities in Shaanxi Province in the People’s Republic of China – Xi'an International University (XAIU). A delegation from this university has come to visit SUSU in order to discuss the prospects of collaboration in such fields as academic and cultural exchange.
The Synthesis and Analysis of Food Ingredients Laboratory was opened at the SUSU School of Medical Biology in 2016, within the frameworks of Project 5-100. The laboratory was created for the purpose of searching for solutions of the tasks in the field of developing the technologies of synthesizing food bio-polymers and their modified forms, produced by using ultrasound.
South Ural State University presented its scientific projects at Russian Agricultural Exhibition “Golden Autumn 2019”. The university’s developments in the field of agricultural technologies were highly appreciated and awarded gold and silver medals.
The International Rankings Agency Times Higher Education has published league tables for THE World University Rankings 2020 by subject.
This year, South Ural State University has been included in THE Engineering & Technology Rankings table by subject for the first time. It has taken place in the interval group of 601-800 among more than 900 universities of the world that train specialists in the field of automation, control systems, construction, electrical engineering, power engineering, metallurgy, mechanical engineering, etc.
A delegation from Mount St. Mary’s University, Maryland, USA, consisting of 9 students and Associate Professor of Economics and Law of the Department of Business and Economics Michael Barry visited SUSU.
SUSU and Mount St. Mary’s University first started to collaborate in 2008, when the first delegation of students arrived on a friendly visit to participate in SIFE (Students in Free Enterprise) games.
An all-Russian meeting on the problems of interaction between the employers and institutions of higher professional education in the framework of the Science National Project was held in Novocherkassk. SUSU Rector Aleksandr Shestakov took part in the forum and was awarded the Certificate of Honour.
Ecology is one of the strategic fields of South Ural State University, along with Materials Science and Digitalization. It will gain a new impetus in its development thanks to active collaboration with a new member of the SUSU International Scientific Council, Professor of University of Southampton, United Kingdom, Andrew Cundy, who kindly accepted the proposal to head the work of our university in this field.
The Faculty of Energy and Power Engineering, headed by the Dean Aleksandr Shishkov, obtained a grant and established partnership on the Erasmus+ programme with the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki.
Andrei Anikeev, a scientist of South Ural State University, is producing unique composite materials. They will possess exceptional strength and will find applications in metallurgy, mechanical engineering, and the defense industry. The scientific project of the young researcher was supported by a Grant of the President of the Russian Federation.
The qualifying round of the quarterfinal of the 2019-2020 Student Team World Programming Championship has been held at SUSU. 46 teams, 40 of which represented South Ural State University, participated in the contest at our university.
The Student Team World Programming Championship is an annual, multi-level event, in which students from higher education institutions take part.

In September of 2019, the 4th meeting of the Asia-Oceania Sonochemical Society 2019 (AOSS-4) took place in Nanjing University of the city of Nanjing in China. The purpose of this meeting was to consider the latest accomplishments in the sphere of ultrasound and sonochemistry, and present the latest perspectives in this research area.
On Saturday, October 19th, a big-scale event will be held: the opening of the second wave of “Boiling Points” at 47 universities in Russia, one of which is South Ural State University.
The SUSU’s “Boiling Point” will be created for a community of representatives of the fields of education, science, business, non-commercial sector, and the government: businesspeople and technological entrepreneurs. Participants will also include public employees, researchers, members of social organisations and professional communities, students, theorists, and practitioners.
Every year, a reputable QS Quacquarelli Symonds ranking agency publishes rankings of the world’s top universities. In the new edition of a regional ranking, QS EECA (Emerging Europe and Central Asia), which includes 354 universities from the countries of the Eastern Europe and Central Asia, South Ural State University has taken the 128th place, having improved its last year’s standing by 7 positions.
Collaborations of Russian scientists from South Ural State University and the Institute of Organic Chemistry named after ND Zelinsky RAS develop materials for a new generation of solar cells based on organic photosensitizers. More efficient and easier to manufacture environmentally friendly devices for energy production will be obtained.
Last weekend, a meeting was held between the Chairman of the State Duma Committee for Ecology and Environment Protection Vladimir Burmatov and SUSU students at South Ural State University.
