Global Game Jam is Back at SUSU: 48 Hours for Video Games Development

Global Game Jam, a major worldwide competition on computer games development, is to be held for the sixth time at the School of Electronic Engineering and Computer Science January 31st through February 2nd.

The GGJ members have 48 hours to make a team and create a game from scratch on a given topic, together with more than 20 thousand programmers, artists, game designers and those, who simply love computer games, from dozens of countries!

Participating in the Global Game Jam is the best way to start to design games, meet some like-minded people, and fulfil your experimental ideas. The prototypes of Surgeon Simulator, Lovers in a Dangerous Spacetime и Mushroom 11 were first developed in the GGJ, but subsequently became commercially successful hits and received prestigious Independent Games Festival awards.

Besides, the Global Game Jam is also a perfect way to learn how to design video games, since both newbies and professionals can participate in it, and all the games of the past years, as well as their source codes are available on the GGJ official web-site. Each year, over such a short period of time, the quality of games is getting better and better. Take, for example, Magnefique and Battle of Islands. It is difficult to believe that they were made by a couple of people within 48 hours.

The sponsors and organizers of the Global Game Jam are the biggest IT companies and universities of the world: Facebook, Google, MIT, California Polytechnic University, and more. The sponsors of the event at SUSU are well-known IT companies from Chelyabinsk and Ekaterinburg: SKB Kontur, Odin Games, TAPCLAP, Caravan Games, ICVR, Alpha Games, and Napoleon IT. The professional developers of these companies will not only help the participants to gather a team of like-minded people and choose the main ideas for the games, but also will award valuable prizes for the best games.

Everyone is welcome to take part in the competition. The number of participants is limited.

Potential participants should preliminarily fill out a form and register on the Global Game Jam web-site.
