The SUSU “Heart of the Urals” Advanced Engineering School announced the launch of a project called “Smart Eco-city Intelligent System: New Technologies for the Maintenance of Road and Transport Infrastructure”. The work is aimed at introducing modern digital technologies in the management of urban infrastructure, in particular, in the cleaning of road surfaces using municipal equipment.
On September 1st, our university's Foreign Citizens Testing Centre opened after a large-scale reconstruction. The flooring in the Centre were refurbished and the walls and ceilings were painted − a well-thought-out business interior has been created, which will become more comfortable both for staff members and visitors. A unique test of early intellectual and creative giftedness (TRITO), designed to diagnose divergent (creative) and convergent (intellectual) thinking among preschool children (6-7 years old), has been patented by researchers from the Psychology and Psyhophisiology of Stress and Creativity Scientific Laboratory of South Ural State University. Such test will allow psychologists to identify future schoolchildren for studying in classes with intensive educational programmes.
Researchers from South Ural State University have developed a prototype of a device that can transport small unmanned aerial vehicles over long distances, for example, for the development of the Arctic or patrolling forest areas. Young researchers are working on the project as part of the Sirius.Summer program under the mentorship of SUSU scientists.
Built using the tandem design, this transport aircraft, codenamed "Kenguru" ("Kangaroo"), will be able to carry payloads or small drones with a total weight of up to two kilogrammes.

A new archaeological study by Polina Ankusheva and Doctor of Sciences (History) Andrey Epimakhov, Deputy Director of the SUSU Institute of Media, Social Sciences and Humanities, is devoted to the origin of horses and sheep used by ancient miners of the Ural Region in the Bronze Age. The work was published in the Archaeology of Eurasian Steppes international journal, which is included in the second quartile of the Scopus citation database.

The church and folk holiday Honey Feast of the Saviour is celebrated on August 14th. People think of Honey Feast of the Saviour as the time when bees finish their work and prepare for cold times. The name of the holiday comes from the custom of trimming the honeycombs at this time. People used to say that if beekeepers do not open the honeycombs and extract the honey, then the bees of their neighbours will take it. Beekeepers strictly followed the custom of bringing freshly collected honey to the church for blessing on this day.
Professor of the SUSU Department of Building Technologies and Structural Engineering Aleksandr Potapov has patented a device for damping resonant oscillations in pipelines, in particular, in overhead gas pipelines.
The idea came to Professor Aleksandr Potapov when he was conducting official research work commissioned by ZAO Uralgazstroy, studying the aerodynamic stability of the Kuznetskoye-Bayramgulovo overhead high-pressure gas pipeline in the Argayashsky District, on a section of the route near the village of Bayramgulovo.
August 8th through August 10th, a bright and eventful Regional Conference was held, which brought together heads of Dobro.Tsentr divisions from all over the Chelyabinsk Region. The head of the SUSU Dobro.Tsentr Dariia Savina took part in the conference on the development of volunteering activities in our region. Over the course of three days, the participants immersed themselves in current topics of volunteering and exchange of experience. The conference program was diverse and eventful.
Students from South Ural State University took part in the “Student Sailing League Cup” all-Russian student sailing contest.
The competition brought together 6 strongest student teams from Rostov, Nizhny Novgorod, Saint Petersburg, Moscow and Chelyabinsk, uniting universities in an effort to demonstrate their skills, teamwork and love for sailing.
