Chemoinformatics combines the scientific fields of chemistry, computer science and applies informational techniques for solving problems in chemistry. Chemoinformatics in Chemical and Material Engineering is aimed to transform atomic and molecular data into information about chemical structure and information into knowledge about material properties for making better decisions faster. As part of the course, students get a general overview of modern methods of statistical analysis, get acquainted with the basic concepts of chemical data, learn how to use biological, chemical and crystallographic databases. Main challenges of Chemoinformatics lie in the following fields: synthesis of physical and chemical properties, human health and environmental impact of chemicals, understanding the chemical and biological systems. Thus, Chemoinformatics is aimed at the design of novel drugs and materials and explanation of chemical phenomena in terms of modern chemical theories.
