International Applicants Choose SUSU

More and more international students choose SUSU to pursue their higher education. In the 2019-2020 academic year, SUSU is home for over 2300 international students from 56 countries. Most of them are from China, Egypt, Iraq, Kazakstan, Uzbekistan, and Tajikistan. Every year SUSU expands its geography and recruits international students from new countries. For example, this year we expect new coming students from Canada, Haiti, Mali, and Burkino Faso.

"So far we have received almost 600 international applications for various programs. It is a much higher number compared to previous years. Potential students are particularly interested in master’s degree programs taught in English,” commented Liudmila Lapina, head of the International Student Support.

We talked to some international students who started their study last year to learn what motivated them to study abroad.

“I am from Afghanistan and came to Chelyabinsk to study Computer Science. I decided to study in Russia because I love Russian language and culture. When I was a child, I always dreamed to study in Russia. The first thing that surprised me here is Russian weather, especially in the Ural region. One day it is too sunny and another day it is raining heavily. So far I have visited 6 different Russian cities but my favorite is still Chelyabinsk. The city is big, however, pretty quiet and does not have much traffic. What else impresses me in Chelyabinsk is lots of lakes in the city,” shared Mansoor Milad Kargar from Afghanistan.

“I am very excited to start my Bachelor’s degree in Mechatronics. The most important reason why I chose to study in Russia is a high quality of education. I enjoy speaking the Russian language and learning about rich Russian culture. At SUSU, I met my best friends who made my experience here very enjoyable. I think Russian people are very similar to Egyptian people in terms of culture and communication style,” said Ebrahim Youssef El Sharawy from Egypt.

“I started my bachelor’s degree in Software Engineering in September. I got very lucky and received a Russian government scholarship for my education. When I received it, I was excited to study in a new country and learn a new language and culture. My first impression was that the Russian people are very serious. However, after living here for seven months I learned that Russians are nice and funny. I am also very impressed with the rich Russian culture and learning a lot about music, dance, and literature.  I am really enjoying living in Chelyabinsk. I like the fact that Chelyabinsk is a big industrial city with beautiful nature, great people and friendly environment. The climate is unusual for me but I got used to it,” said Mulham Shaheen from Syria.
