On December 19th a lecture on “Viktor Petrovich Polyanichko, Man and Citizen” under “Step into the Future” program was held at South Ural State University.
This lecture was attended by pupils of Chelyabinsk schools, coordinators of “Step into the Future” school programs, and members of the Executive Board of Chelyabinsk Regional Foundation “Future of Our Motherland” named after Viktor Polyanichko.
A team of scientists and engineers from the Polytechnic Institute of South Ural State University within the Project 5-100 invented highly used brushless electric motors for aerospace equipment.
Operating principle of such motor is the following: a system of constant highly efficient magnets on rare-earth elements is placed on the spinning part of the motor – the rotor; a system of conductive coils is placed on a stator. When switching current in these coils, the magnets start pursuing the travelling field and lug the rotor along.
The 5th forum exhibition VUZPROMEXPO-2017 was held on December 13th-14th in Moscow. This event is the summation of partnership between the state, universities, and industry from the last year. The country’s traditional leading universities presented the results of their realization of federal programs – leading developments in the industrial, medical, and agrarian fields and more.
On December 19, a discussion of plans for further development of legal education and science at SUSU were held during a briefing session of Heads of structural subdivisions of the Institute of Law.
Within the framework of Program 5-100 being fulfilled at the University more and more innovation technologies are being integrated into the training process at SUSU. On Monday, December 18th, the results of the contest “SUSU’s Best Representatives” were summarized at Attimo Banquet Hall.
This contest was first held in 2006. It aims at revealing the best students of our University in various categories: from science to extra-curricular activities. This year the participants competed under 12 categories, and some of these were completely new.
Master’s degree students Anton Buller, Andrey Zemlyanskiy and Mikhail Mikheev, representing the Department of Electric Drive and Industrial Automation of the Polytechnic Institute, successfully performed at the International Student SCADA Championship – the competition in speed development of an operator interface of automated process control system in SCADA system.
Development of digital technologies in industry puts focus on engineering professions and makes them well-paid ones. Automation of modern systems requires that the world’s universities train highly professional specialists. Polytechnic Institute of South Ural State University combines all the engineering faculties training engineers for base sectors of Industry 4.0 at a new level due to integration of all educational and scientific resources.
The significance of metallurgical industry is huge: we can’t imagine modern world without products made of metal – starting with a paper clip and finishing with space ship. Our country and our region have well-developed metallurgy. However, without adequate and scientifically grounded approach, efficient operation of enterprises becomes impossible. Among well-known scientists in the sphere of metallurgy is Doctor of Physical and Mathematical Sciences, Professor, senior research fellow of the SUSU Department of Computer Modeling and Nanotechnology, Dzhalal Mirzaev.
Today you cannot imagine sport without innovative training technical arsenal. And namely this sector becomes a “test simulator” of sorts for trail runs of the newest scientific achievements.

Faculty of Advanced Training and Center for Continuing Education “Foreign Language Courses” at the Institute of Linguistics and International Communication invites professors of Russian and foreign languages to take “LINGUODIDACTICS” advanced training courses.
On December 15th, on the occasion of South Ural State University’s Birthday two laboratories were opened: Laboratory for Mechanics, Laser Processing, and Digital Technology, and Laboratory for Massive Online Open Courses, as well as a round table on “Surface Engineering: Laser and Sputtering Technologies” was held.
At the ceremony the Laboratory for Mechanics, Laser Processing, and Digital Technology was opened by the SUSU Rector Alexander Shestakov.
South Ural State University will perform training of specialists in such areas as “Accounting, Analysis and Audit” and “Industrial Economy and Project Management” for the Chelyabinsk Metallurgical Plant (ChMK, included in the Mechel group).

Today, December 15, on SUSU Birthday, took place an awarding ceremony for winners of the youth project contest entitled “The Chelyabinsk region is us!” whose organizer was the Legislative Assembly of the Chelyabinsk region.
On December 14, a massive flashmob in which participated students of various specialties and years of study was held on the ground of South Ural State University.
For many people dancing is more than just a hobby. It is their way of living, a method of self-development and self-improvement. Dancing is considered a very popular kind of activity as it unites people and allows each person to uncover his or her talents. Based on this fact, SUSU students organized dance flashmob right on the square in front of the Main academic building.
The awarding ceremony for winners of a contest for data analysis, SMS Group Data Challenge, which was held from September 1st through December 1st, 2017, was held on December 14th at South Ural State University.
The goal of the contest was to develop an algorithm which would predict sticking during the metal rolling process based on analysis of big data.

Creating new materials is one of the main areas of contemporary nanotechnologies. The most prioritized research goals include creating materials with preliminarily set properties. Scientists of South Ural State University developed a theoretical model which allows determining parameters of a nanocomposite with desired characteristics.

On December 12, the second annual IT Forum Chelyabinsk, in which took part speakers from large Russian and international IT companies, young specialists in the sphere of informational technologies, and students of engineering specialties, took place at SUSU. Organizer of the event was SUSU IT Department.
The Forum is intended to increase the level of information society and population’s life quality due to the use of IT technologies in various spheres of social life, and promote an exchange of advanced practices.
