The contest aims at improving of SUSU’s recognition in the international scientific community by means of building collaboration with the world’s leading universities under the criteria of entering the QS subject ranking.
The contest tasks imply increasing the number of collaborations between the SUSU employees, including young scientists, and the world’s top scientists, and also boosting publishing activity and increasing the number of citations of publications by the University employees.

Magnets have been known to humanity since long ago. In Ancient Greece the ability of some rocks to draw chunks of iron had already been discovered. Contemporary scientists found out that not only materials on the base of iron (ferrites) possess magnetic properties. Nowadays among the most powerful magnets are samarium-cobalt (or samarium) magnets. Their principal feature is high temperature resistance and preserving of their initial magnetization intensity at temperatures up to 350°С.
The SUSU Association of International Students became a finalist of All-Russia contest for best organization of student self-governing bodies’activity. They won in the nomination category of “The best system of working with foreign students and international student cooperation”.
The World Cup of College Hockey finished in Slovakia. Three largest teams of student ice hockey leagues of the USA, Europe and Russia took part in the international tournament.

From 26th поthrough 28th of January, on the ground of the SUSU School of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, the largest international competition in computer games development – the Global Game Jam – is to be held for the 4th time. Participants of the GGJ will be given 48 hours for gathering a team and creating a game on a given topic from the scratch – simultaneously with more than 20 thousand programmers, artists, game designers and game lovers from tens of countries.

Senior Professor at the SUSU Department of Electronic Computing Machines Sergey Syaskov became the first Russian athlete awarded the title of a super-cyclist for the sixth time within the period of two years. Development of new highly efficient equipment in power engineering, metallurgy, space, military and some other branches of industry is connected with the problem of exploitation of materials on the edge of their capabilities. In other words, under conditions of increased temperature and significant plastic deformations. Understanding of physical regularities and constructing authentic mathematical models of material deformation in such conditions is a quite difficult but accomplishable task for scientists who study properties of heat-resistant alloys.
Professor Anton Korzhov of the Polytechnic Institute Department at South Ural State University developed solutions for enhancing reliability of cable lines. His project will allow for enhancing operational reliability and safety of cable lines under conditions of development of urban electric networks.

A Happy New Year corporate video contest in which schools and institutes of our university participated took place at South Ural State University.
Over December, students and teaching staff worked over a special contest task – to shoot creative New Year greetings video which would express the holiday atmosphere and corporate spirit of the SUSU schools and institutes.
