Immunology Readings Are Being Held at SUSU

September 11th-13th, an anniversary 20th All-Russian Conference "Immunology Readings in Chelyabinsk" with international participation is being held at South Ural State University. It has gathered more than 500 leading scientists and young specialists from Moscow, St. Petersburg, Yekaterinburg, Tyumen, Perm, Rostov-on-Don, Chelyabinsk, as well as from Belarus and China.

Traditionally, the conference started with review reports on the condition of this field of research, which were presented by the leading immunology scientists: Doctor of Sciences (Medicine) Aleksandr Zurochka (Chelyabinsk), Doctor of Sciences (Biology) Sergey Khaidukov (Moscow), Candidate of Sciences (Biology) Igor Kudriavtsev (St. Petersburg), and Candidate of Sciences (Biology) Elena Kostolomova (Tyumen).

"The science of immunology is currently developing by leaps and bounds. Not only scientists need such conferences. We must convey the information to clinicians as well and share what novelties have emerged in our country over the recent years," stated Tatiana Kolchinskaia, Ministry of Healthcare of the Chelyabinsk Region. "We must direct treatment to certain mechanisms in the human body. In particular, immunology allows to create target therapy. We are expecting to receive important conclusions from our medical community as a result of this event."

Besides the scientific achievements in immunology, including the discoveries made using the flow cytometry technologies, the reports also cover the practical issues of treatment of sepsis, inflammatory bowel diseases, poliomyelitis, hepatic fibrosis, acute pancreatitis, and parotitis.

Special attention is paid to treatment of Sars-Cov-2 pneumonia (the 2020-21 pandemic), and the psychology and physiology of the Post-COVID-19 syndrome. In particular, reports on post-COVID disorders will be presented by scientists from the city of Wuhan, China.

As part of the Readings, a satellite congress for otolaryngologists will also be held at the ParkCity Hotel on September 13th. Researchers and doctors will be discussing the analyzing of immunologic response in case of rhinosinusitis polyposa (a variety of chronic rhinitis), the issue of children's adenoidectomy, diagnosing of tonsillopharyngitis, otitis, and reversal of allergies.

As a foreplay to this conference, a School for young scientists in immunology and flow cytometry had been held. It is traditionally organized before the presentation of the main reports. Having mastered the practical skills of immunograms designing, every one of the young participants automatically becomes a participant of this conference, receives access to its proceedings, and can even try and deliver a poster presentation.

The Ural Division of the Russian Academy of Sciences acts as one of the conference organizers. One of the Readings' traditions is a retrospective journey into the history of the Academy of Sciences. This year, Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences Valery Cherenshev will close the conference with a report on the activity of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR during the Great Patriotic War.

The conference will close in the evening of September 13th.
