Second-year Bachelor’s students of the Department of the Russian Language and Literature of the Institute of Media, Social Sciences and Humanities took the second place in the translation contest organized by Lomonosov Moscow State University.
The translation and recitation contest in memory of Stanisław Barańczak was organised by the Department of Slavic Philology of the Faculty of Philology at Lomonosov Moscow State University and was dedicated to the 10th anniversary since passing of the outstanding Polish poet, translator and literary critic.
More than 50 works from all over our country were submitted, and our 2nd-year Philology students Diana Tamarovskaya and Karina Kobeleva took the 2nd place in the Best Translation of Stanisław Barańczak’s Poem into Russian category.
Several texts in Polish were offered for translation: Diana translated the poem N. N. rozważa treść słowa „pomiędzy”, and Karina translated the poem Te słowa.
“This was my first experience of participating in such a contest. I really enjoyed it, because I am interested in the Polish language! At first, I was a little afraid to start translating, it seemed to me that I would fail, but thanks to the help and support of my teacher, everything worked out, and I realized that I want to continue participating in such contests in the future, because they help better understand the language and culture,” shared her impressions Diana Tamarovskaya.
Associate Professor of the Department of the Russian Language and Literature of the Institute of Media, Social Sciences and Humanities Denis Pelikhov helped the Philology students participate in the translation contest. He is also interested in the Polish language and its history and is engaged in literary translations of Polish texts. During classes, he always talks about language and translation in such a way that he inspires students not only to study Russian and related Slavic languages in more detail, but also to work creatively in their disciplines and win major contests.
Congratulations to our talented students! We wish them further creative and professional success!
