In September, South Ural State University will begin training highly qualified engineering personnel on the basis of an advanced engineering school of engine building and special equipment “Heart of the Urals”. Three master’s degree programs have been developed for university graduates: ”Engines for sustainable development”, “Digital twins in engine building and transport engineering” and “Robotics and mechatronic systems”.
In December 2023, SUSU became the winner of the federal project to create advanced engineering schools – centers for training engineers of a new formation in cooperation with high-tech companies – leaders of industries. The work of the AES “Heart of the Urals” is aimed at the development of the engine industry and the creation of a new generation of special equipment, including the development of technology for smart cities and intelligent control systems for special vehicles.
“Working with major industrial partners, AES meats the challenges facing the Russian machine building industry in general and the special transport engine industry in particular. It will become a center for advanced training of engineers who are competitive in the modern labor market and capable of ensuring the technological sovereignty of the country’’, - says Sergey Taran, director of the “Heart of the Urals” Research Institute.
Students of the AES have the opportunity to conduct research, participate in developments, and gain knowledge from leading scientists, specialists and practitioners of such scientific and technological leaders of the country in their field as NAMI, Research Center, Kurchatov Institute, KAMAZ, etc. Among the industrial partners AZ “Ural”, as well as “ChTZ – Uraltrack”, “Kurgandormash”, the plant “Spetsagregat” and “UDMZ”
“The AES requirements of “ChTZ – Uraltrack” were includedin the concept of the project. Graduates of the advanced engineering school of engine building and special equipment “Heart of the Urals” will be able to join the team of the design bureau of the plant and participate in the creation of promising models of diesel engines”, - explains Nikolai Yakovlev, Acting Director of Personnel at “ChTZ – Uraltrack” LLC.
The program “Digital twins in engine building and transport engineering” (09.04.01 “Computer science and computer engineering”) is aimed at developing skills in creating mathematical models and digital twins of transport engineering facilities. The revolutionary technology of Digital Twins has changed the approach to manufacturing in the automotive industry. Thanks to its implementation, the transition time from the stages of design, testing of prototypes and fine-tuning of machines and engines to the stage of their mass production and operation has been significantly reduced. Graduates of the program will be able to work as leading digital twin development engineers or research engineers in the R&D departments of large Russian and international companies.
“Within the advanced engineering school of engine building and special equipment “Heart of the Urals”, cooperation between SUSU and The Automobile Factory “Ural” is planned in the following areas: conducting a complex of research and design works, developing and implementing new educational programs of higher education, implementing joint projects in the field of advanced training of the engineering staff of the enterprise, etc.”, - says Ekaterina Koloskova, Head of the Department of Personnel Training and Development at AZ “Ural”.
“The engines for sustainable development” program (13.04.02 “Electric power and electrical engineering”) is aimed at training world-class M-type industry leaders for research and development of high-tech technology, products and materials in the field of transport and energy systems, capable of leading projects from development to production of the final product. The program was created with the support of industrial partners AZ “Ural” and JSC “Ural Diesel Engine Factory”.
“The opening of such advanced educational programs is a big step for the training of a new generation of engineering personnel. We wish the “Heart of the Urals” success and look forward to its graduates”, -confirms Artyom Nazarov, Head of Recruitment Department at UDMZ.
The program “Robotics and Mechatronic Systems” (15.04.06 “Mechatronics and robotics”) is aimed at preparing industry leaders in the field of design, development and operation of mechatronic complexes of electromechanical transmissions for transport equipment and robotic manipulators. Graduates will be able to develop physical processes using virtual design tools, taking into account the influence of the environment, or design and construct robotic and mechatronic complexes with intelligent control systems.
