Students of the Department of Journalism, Advertising and Public Relations of the Institute of Media, Social Sciences and Humanities Tatiana Shekhovtsova and Tatiana Evstigneeva took practical training in St. Petersburg. On Peterburg Radio (project of the Fifth Channel) the students speak about the cultural life of the city. Within the framework of the Full Marks for Internship feature, we talk about the most interesting practical trainings of students of South Ural State University!
As part of academic programme, Tatiana Shekhovtsova is working on Besedka podcast, where she regularly interviews SUSU students, staff members, and activists. For a long time now Tatiana has been dreaming of visiting St. Petersburg and working at a local radio station, and this year the dream has been destined to come true.
“For me, it is much more interesting to go to other cities to take training there and gain not only professional, but also life experience. In St. Petersburg they treat with care and help us with everything. We attend performances, interview directors and write stories. Cultural news is a new experience for me, so every task is interesting!” notes Tatiana Shekhovtsova.
Another student, Tatiana Evstigneeva, emphasizes that she does not face any difficulties in taking training. But there are certain specifics regarding organizational moments: where to say, what clothes to take, how to arrive to a certain place? That what she was thinking about before going to St. Petersburg.
“I was always treated open-heartedly at every place of practice. The Peterburg Radio is no exception to that. At the very first meeting, I was surprised to see how friendly the whole team was: we were on the air and watched how well-coordinated the team's work was,” says Tatiana Evstigneeva.
Following editorial assignments, they have to attend various performances, musicals, ballets, festivals, take interviews, and then record a full-fledged story.
“Recently, we have been to the Story of Voyages performance, which was scripted according to the film of the same title. I have never seen a performance of such high level! The scenery, acting, lighting: everything was amazing. It is so true that St. Petersburg is called the culture capital of Russia,” the students share their impressions.
Such interesting practical training for students was organized by the Department of Journalism, Advertising and Public Relations of the SUSU Institute of Media, Social Sciences and Humanities, which has tight partner relations with St Petersburg University and the Peterburg Radio.
“The Peterburg Radio is the oldest radio station in Russia that broadcasts today,” says the Head of the Department, Doctor of Sciences (Philology) Liudmila Shesterkina. “The very first words, “Leningrad is speaking!”, aired on December 24, 1924. And during the times of war, radio broadcasting literally helped people survive and facilitated the Victory. Now the broadcasting is made up of music, information programs, cycle programs, in which unique recordings from the radio archives are presented. Therefore, I am sure that for our students the practical training on the Peterburg Radio will be deep, useful and unforgettable.”
