The Winners of the “Spring at SUSU” Festival Named

The art festival which helps students discover their talents has wrapped up at South Ural State University.

The Spring at SUSU art festival is an annual university event organized by the Recreation Centre and one of the stages of the Chelyabinsk “Student Spring” Student Art Festival. Competitions were held in several categories: music, dance, theatre, and open genre (fashion theatre and circus acts); students could also compete in the literary contest Ascending Parnassus.

"This is my first time participating; I missed the festival last year,” says Timur Dovgal, SUSU student. “The festival is a great opportunity to show yourself, to perform on stage.”

Timur and a team of students from the Institute of Architecture and Construction prepared a vocal number.

"I wanted to hear opinions about my work from an outside perspective, as well as to listen to other authors, to learn what they write about," says student Maria Smolina, a participant in the Ascending Parnassus literary contest.

According to Dmitry Malyshev, director and actor of the Mannequin Theatre Studio who headed the panel of judges assessing the participants of the theatrical direction, there are many criteria for evaluation, but the main one is simple: it must be interesting for the audience.

"The performer must captivate us, infect us with their energy. To achieve this goal, I advise they choose only their favourite works. If you yourself like what you read, then you can get the other person, the audience, interested in it," says Dmitry Malyshev.

Oksana Ralkova, head of the Student Parnassus literary workshop, agrees with him:

"Traditionally, we evaluate the authors by three criteria: lexical freedom, figurative freedom, and overall goal. Of course, the most effective works are those with a lot of energy. We feel them."

The Student Art Festival was held at SUSU the whole week. The participants gave the jury and the audience their smiles, striking feelings, and emotions. The judges in their turn impartially and attentively evaluated each performance to make the difficult decision to whom to give the victory. All of the top performers in the festival were given commemorative prizes. First place finishers will represent the university at the city “Spring” Festival.

The final results of the festival can be found here.
