Graduation Ceremony Held at SUSU

Graduates of South Ural State University have celebrated their graduation ceremony. In the Year of Science and Technology, the event was held in an online format. The graduation ceremony was broadcast on the big screen in front of the Main University Building, as well as on all the official platforms of the university: YouTube, VKontakte, Facebook, Instagram, Telegram.

Rector Aleksandr Shestakov congratulated the graduates: “Now you have a profession, but the learning process is not over yet. The school of life awaits you ahead, which will be setting more and more new tasks before you. To solve these, you will need to be constantly developing and improving your competences. You have turned a glorious page in your biography. We have great expectations of you. Ahead are new beautiful pages, which you will fill with your achievements and victories. I feel confident that the knowledge and skills that you have gained at SUSU, along with perseverance and determination, will build a solid foundation for your life and will help you become successful. Welcome to your professions! Onwards to new horizons! Happy journey!”

Aleksandr Shestakov noted that the future of our country depends on today’s graduates. He also thanked the parents who supported their children, created the conditions for study and helped them to find the right path.

This year, about 4.5 thousand specialists graduate from SUSU. Most of them are already employed. As the Head of the Department of Machines and Processes of Pressure Metal Working Liudmila Radionova says, the students are recruited even at the stage of defending their diplomas: “For the last six months we have actively communicated with employers, they are really interested in graduates of our department. It is no secret that metallurgical and machine-building enterprises are now experiencing a strong staff shortage. Our graduates have the opportunity to choose an employer, so I wish them to make the right choice, find a high-paying, promising job, and at the same time continue their studies, enrolling in the Master’s degree, postgraduate studies programme and in life in general, to constantly improve their level of education.”

Aleksandr Molokov, who graduated from the Institute of Engineering and Technology in Technological Machines and Equipment programme, got employed in the field of his speciality even before receiving the diploma. According to Aleksandr, the university helped him find himself and his professional path in life. Now he is planning to continue his studies in the Master’s degree programme at SUSU.

Another graduate of the Institute of Engineering and Technology Maksim Zinchenko will be working according to the speciality which he received at the university. Maksim studied in the Pressure Metal Working programme.

“Four years at the university were extremely important to me, I gained a lot of knowledge, and they helped me successfully pass the interview and get a job,” says Maxim. “I arrived to enrol in SUSU from Rostov-on-Don and do not regret my choice at all, the university helped me make a confident step into the future.”

This year, 340 students graduate from the School of Electronic Engineering and Computer Science, with 70 of them being awarded with diplomas with honours. According to the Director of the School Gleb Radchenko, this year was not an easy one due to the restrictions connected with the coronavirus. However, for the graduates of the School of Electronic Engineering and Computer Science, the pandemic became an opportunity to express themselves and their knowledge.

“It is namely our graduates who create those information technologies which today, in this difficult time, help people interact and communicate,” says Gleb Radchenko. “A graduate of the School of Electronic Engineering and Computer Science is a multi-skilled specialist who is able to solve problems in the field of design, management and development of new software systems, work in radio electronics and instrument making, information security, and create new automated control systems. Such specialists are high-in-demand today more than ever. Leading IT companies are competing for our graduates. This year, about 550 state-funded places have been allocated in the School and we will be glad to see new students here.”

Some of the events were organised in an offline format: in front of the SUSU Main University Building some art objects were installed and a photo zone for graduates was equipped, and creative teams of the university performed on stage. The graduates came to the event with their families, actively took photos with diplomas in their hands and with their university on the background.

Nadezhda Ekimova completed the Master’s degree programme in Sociology at the Institute of Media, Social Sciences and Humanities. At the event, she was holding a diploma with honours and nine-month-old Kira in her hands simultaneously. The birth of the child did not prevent Nadezhda from graduating with honours from the university.

“I did not want to be transferred to part-time mode of study. My husband is also studying in the Master’s degree programme at SUSU, he is defending his diploma next year,” says Nadezhda. “At first it was difficult, but thanks to the support of my husband and the help of my mother, I managed to cope with it and today obtain my diploma. But, of course, my husband and I had to sit late hours to study!”

This year, just like last year, the parade of graduates was cancelled, so the diplomas were handed in at the departments. For the first time in the history of the university, the Rector personally awarded diplomas with honours to the most successful and outstanding graduates who have achievements in the scientific, sports and creative fields.

“Today SUSU graduates are young people who have acquired solid knowledge, are well-versed in the economic environment, and are high-in-demand with the best employers,” noted SUSU Rector Aleksandr Shestakov. “In turn, the university is constantly working on improvement of educational programmes, for example, now we are preparing an application for participation in a competition for programmes relevant to artificial intelligence. The university has a vast potential in this direction. The knowledge we give allows our graduates to work in leading companies in Russia and the world.”
