SUSU Plans to Create the First Laboratory for BIM Technology Development in the Urals

In the field of construction engineering, they increasingly use BIM which is the technology for information modelling of objects. In Russia, this area is just beginning to develop, and South Ural State University may become a flagship. On the basis of the university, they plan to create the first BIM laboratory in the Urals.

The staff of the SUSU  Institute of Architecture and Construction has been introduced to the cloud platform that allows the use of BIM technologies. This is a promising trend in the construction industry: technologies provide information modelling of objects, including architectural, technical, and technological information, as well as the processes related to the operation and dispatching of the facility.

The cloud BIM platform developed on the basis of GRAPHISOFT ArchiCAD has been presented by the Alliance of Engineers and Designers LLC on the example of a project that is currently being worked on.

“We consider BIM to be a centralized system in the form of an engineering Internet, where everyone performs his/her task at a certain site. Now we are working on the creation of the treatment facilities for the Chelyabinsk Zinc Plant. The information model contains all technical solutions in order to obtain the necessary documentation, specifications and to be able to control the quality of work for the customer online,” said Vitaliy Konovalov, Technical Director of Alliance of Engineers and Designers LLC.

The interactive model of the object allows you to examine each element in detail and understand how the object will look and function in real conditions.

The model includes architectural, technical, technological information, as well as processes related to the operation and dispatching of the facility.

Both teachers and students of the Institute of Architecture and Construction are already working with BIM technologies. The representatives of the Alliance of Engineers and Designers propose to delve into this area, creating the Laboratory for the development of information modelling technologies on the basis of the Institute, which is to be the first in the Urals.

In addition to getting acquainted with the tools that are now actively used in construction, students will have the opportunity to carry out real projects for industrial partners.

We should note that the development of the BIM technology in the regional construction industry is supported by the Government of the Chelyabinsk Region. In 2019, Governor Alexey Texler signed an order on the creation of a Coordination Council for the development of information modelling technology.
