SUSU Students to Celebrate Chinese New Year

Our university will celebrate New Year according to the lunar calendar. The event is to be held in an online format.

South Ural State University is an international university with 2300 international students, including 450 students from China, studying here. Every year, SUSU celebrates Days of National Culture. They traditionally begin with celebrating Chinese New Year. The participants of the meeting will learn about the traditions of celebrating the New Year. The program of the event will include creative performances by students, who will be dancing, singing songs and reading poems.

On this day, the SUSU Rector Aleksandr Shestakov, Minister of Education and Science of the Chelyabinsk Region Aleksandr Kuznetsov, Consul General of the People's Republic of China in Ekaterinburg Cui Shaochun, and President of the Global Alumni Alliance Vladimir Chetiy will all be congratulating students.

“Now, many Chinese students stay abroad and study in a distance-learning format, that is why we have decided to organize an event with live broadcast,” said specialist of the SUSU International Student Support Valeria Chachina. “We would like to not only congratulate people of China on their most important holiday, but also support them and remind them that we are looking forward to seeing them and very much hope to meet them as soon as possible. Also, I would like to specifically mention those students from China who have already graduated from our university. As the meeting with the alumni in December 2020 showed, they miss the alma mater, and they are really happy to see familiar faces: university administrative and academic staff and students, and they also really want to congratulate each other on the New Year.”

A student from the People's Republic of China Wang Youyin learned about SUSU when she was studying at a Chinese university. She visited Chelyabinsk on an exchange program. After that, she realized that she wanted to continue her studies in Russia. Now she is a postgraduate at SUSU.

“I really like the SUSU university administrative and academic staff and students. The Centre for Doctoral Studies, my academic advisor, and SUSU university administrative and academic staff help me a lot. It is important that SUSU not only provides training, but also we can engage in sports and participate in various cultural events here,” says Wang Youyin.

The event will be held on February 11th at 13:00. Link to live broadcast:
