SUSU Celebrates the Science Day for Peace and Development

Celebrated every 10 November, World Science Day for Peace and Development highlights the significant role of science in society and the need to engage the wider public in debates on emerging scientific issues. It also underlines the importance and relevance of science in our daily lives.

SUSU has one of the best structures for scientific activity in the country. There are about 40 laboratories at the university - the basis for the development of scientific directions for schools and institutes.  Over the past few years, twelve international laboratories have been established under the supervision of leading foreign professors. The university is at the forefront of science, and SUSU scientists are published in prestigious journals.

One of the laboratories is run by Oxford professor Manus Patrick Henry, a world leader in flowmeter measurement. Under his supervision, a three-phase flow-meter, which measures oil, water and gas in wells, is being developed.

South Ural State University is involved in major projects in various fields of science and is developing new fields, such as biomedical sciences. The mechanisms of stress are investigated at the molecular level.

Effective cooperation with world leading scientific centres and high standards of education attract students from all over the world every year.

We asked our international students who they consider the greatest scientist of the world, whether they plan to do research in future and what research opportunities they can find at SUSU.

“I think Albert Einstein is one of the great scientists. He made lots of discoveries in physics. Thanks to him people have safe refrigerators in their everyday life. I know he did not invent a fridge, but he made the technology safer. Einstein started to solve the problem after he had heard the news about some people’s deaths because of the poisonous gas being released from refrigerators. To my mind his name is always the first one that comes to mind when we start talking about people of extraordinary genius.

I know that here in SUSU I have lots of opportunities to do research. Nowadays I am interested in computer technology,” shares Alisherzhon Mamadaliev, a SUSU student from Uzbekistan getting his Bachelor degree at the Institute of Linguistics and International Communications.

Al-Jourani Rabee came from Syria to get his Master’s degree at the Institute of Sport, Tourism and Service.

“I guess the greatest scientist in the world is Nikola Tesla. He changed the world and made it the way we know it nowadays. He did not get higher education but did many inventions - he discovered X-rays, invented radio and alternating electric current and even electric cars. The infinite energy produced by the potential difference between the earth and the ion layer provides free electricity for the whole humankind. In many of his works, Nichola Tesla laid the foundations for modern inventions and modern life.

As for me, I have a strong desire to do research in the sphere of physical rehabilitation after sports injuries. The institute I study at has laboratories and all necessary modern equipment for successful research work.”

South Ural State University encourages and promotes the development of the scientific potential of its students.
