SUSU Recreation Centre Applied for Participation in Russian Student Spring Festival

Every year the creative teams of the Recreation Centre actively participate in a big-scale project that is the Russian Student Spring festival. This year is not an exception. It is clear that under the circumstances the festival is held on-line.

Russian Student Spring is the only Program for Support and Development of Student Creativity in Russia implemented on the territory of the Russian Federation since 1992, it includes 80 regional, 10 all-Russian and 4 international events. About 1500000 students from over 1200 educational institutions from all over our country participate in the Program annually. In 2019 the events of the Program were included in the Russia Is a Land of Opportunity presidential platform.

“Russian Student Spring is not just an annual festival held in universities and secondary specialised educational institutions, at the regional and all-Russian levels. It is the largest platform for student creativity both online and off-line, as well as for the creative ideas exchange and implementation,” said Director of Recreation Centre Svetlana Filipchuk.

At present the SUSU Recreation Centre has submitted 14 applications in three categories – dancing, music (vocals and instrumental music) and the original genre.

Dancing

Two teams are presented in the dancing category:

  • “Deep Vision” dance theatre (headed by Ekaterina Galanova) with the performances: “Satellite”, “Transitivity” (in modern dance nomination) and “Flower Bed” (in variety art nomination);
  • “Crazy Family” team (headed by Iuliia Krasnopevtseva) with performance “Energy” (staged by Т. Latypova).

Music. Vocals

  • In the nomination “singer-songwriter song” Polina Kovalenia performed with the song “Little Girl”;
  • Folk vocal was presented by “Folk Tone” headed by Iuliia Chernykh. Students performed the Russian folk song “Beyond the Urals”;
  • Danil Kliushin is the lead singer of the vocal studio headed by Elena Shishova, he performed a song “Dance” (lyrics and music by D. Khoronko) in variety art nomination (choreography by Pavel Khramkin).

Two university choirs also took part in the festival:

  • Primavera Choir (headed by Aleksey Prosekov, choirmaster Pavel Pavlichuk) performed a song “Katiusha” (music by M. Blanter, lyrics by М. Isakovskiy);
  • Folk academic male choir of the Automobile and Tractor Engineering Faculty (headed by Honoured Cultural Worker of Russia Nonna Streltsova and Liubov Streltsova). The group performed a song by Yuri Antonov “Red Poppies”.

Music. Instrumental Music

• “Pianist” studio led by Honoured Cultural Worker of Russia Svetlana Ivanova, prepared three performances for the festival. The duet, composed of Nina Kuleshova and Ekaterina Tarasova performed a musical fragment from E.L. Webber's the musical “The Phantom of the Opera”. The studio participants performed solo numbers: E. Tarasova performed “Prelude” by R. Glier and N. Kuleshova performed “Rhapsody of the Southern Steppes” by A. Zhubanov;

• The soloist of the jazz orchestra (headed by Georgiy Anokhin) Irina Ivashchuk performed the famous composition by G. Gershwin “Summertime” on the saxophone.

Original Genre

In the original genre the collection “The Ice Tale of a Living Heart” (based on the “Snow Queen” by H. Andersen) was presented by the Valkyrie Fashion Theatre (directed by Ekaterina Serova) from SUSU. The author of the collection is Elena Rubtsova, the choreographer is Ekaterina Koroleva.

The collection is unique. The author had very difficult tasks and did a delicate job with all the images, using various materials to create it. And these are not only fabric canvases, faux fur, masks, wigs, props and various decorative elements, but also rather unusual ones, such as: polymethane glass, mirror fragments, and even jumpers.

“Besides the fact that thousands of spectators will see our students, the leading experts of the Russian Student Spring Show will give recommendations and advice on the air, and will choose the best performance for the final releases. And the jury will choose those who will go to the All-Russian Festival in Rostov-on-Don. We wish good luck to all the creative teams of SUSU and, of course, we wish them to win!” spoke about the prospects and gave parting words Svetlana Filipchuk, Director of the Recreation Centre.
