SUSU-TV Won the All-Russian Competition of Student Media Projects

The University's SUSU-TV Television and Radio Company became the winner in the UniverCity all-Russian journalism contest in Moscow. The SUSU-TV's music video took the first place in the Entertainment Video category.

The music video has become the first student work of SUSU-TV created in Ultra HD 4K. Students of the Institute of Media, Social Sciences and Humanities created it in December last year for the 15th Anniversary of SUSU-TV Television and Radio Company. It was an unusual creative present to the university television in the format of a rap song. The author of the text is the student of the Institute of Media, Social Sciences and Humanities Artem Minasian, who also became the hero of the music video.

When creating the video, its cameraman and director Matvei Sholokhov and Daniil Rukavitsyn, students from the Institute of Media, Social Sciences and Humanities, focused on modern trends in music video making, such as music videos for the songs performed by Kendrick Lamar and Arash, as well as on the works of the famous Russian music video director Aleksandr Gudkov. Various creative filming and editing techniques were used, such as tracking, masks, dolly-zoom, rapid, VHS styling, recursive transitions through screens, and drawing on frames. Also, a 360-degree camera and a quadcopter were used to work on the music video. For filming, the students climbed to the roof of SUSU's building 3Б and even found a real horse.

"We tried very hard to approach the work on the video as a real production: a month before the start of filming, we wrote a script, thought out all the special effects, and created a photoscript. For another month, we shot on the premises of SUSU, climbed the roof, went to the equestrian club and in the fields to take an epic shot from a quadcopter. We spent a few more weeks editing: it played the most important role here, because it was at this stage that the graphics and special effects were created," said Matvei Sholokhov, student at the Institute of Media, Social Sciences and Humanities.

The video was shown at the gala meeting dedicated to the anniversary of the SUSU-TV Television and Radio Company, and also gained a huge number of views and reviews on social networks.

"The SUSU-TV Television and Radio Company provides many opportunities for the creativity of students. And it’s great when the guys use these opportunities and create such serious modern videos," said Sergei Gordienko, Director of the SUSU-TV.

In the Entertainment Video category of the UniverCity Competition 133 video works were presented. The music video of SUSU-TV entered the short list, which included 8 best entertainment videos from all over our country.

The final of the Competition was held in an online format. The works were analyzed via the Zoom application, in which the country's leading media experts advised students on how to improve their work. The SUSU-TV Television and Radio Company also took part in the analyzing of the works.

"It's a very strong video, shot on a professional level. Honestly, I can't find any faults in this work. I can see how much efforts they have gone to, what a great deal of work has been done here. Each transition is registered in advance, the operation of the camera and colour correction are thought out. The only question is: how could students create such a thing?", noted Kirill Gavrilov, member of the jury of the category, Chief Director of the Moscow channel.

"It's a very cool work. Now I also want to enrol in your journalism department," noted Alina Belferman, member of the jury of the category, Co-founder and Development Director of the Yoshi Media agency.

After analyzing the works, the results in the Entertainment Video category were published. The SUSU-TV's music video took the first place. The awarding ceremony will be held online late in May.
