SUSU Held Dota 2 Tournament

Digitalization has been changing our habits, hobbies and activities. Taking the current situation in the world into consideration, tournaments in virtual space have become not only an alternative to ordinary football, but also an independent discipline. SUSU continues to keep in touch with the students, regardless of the season or the mode of work: distance or full-time learning.

The open Dota 2 Tournament was held at South Ural State University. At first, the competition was seen as a tournament only among the students of our university. But then, the gamers from Karelia, Magnitogorsk and Sverdlovsk Region expressed a wish to participate, what expanded the competition to an all-Russian scale. Gennadiy Budanov, Deputy Chairman for Student Support of the Trade Union Committee, spoke about the target of the competition and shared his opinion.

“We are all having a distance format of learning right now, but we do not want to lose connection with the students, so we interact online. I really enjoyed watching the final battle, it was not an amateur-kind one at all. The final was extremely professional,” said Gennadiy.

The games were broadcasted via the Twich platform with a moderator in each match, who monitored the game.
More than 60 students from different cities of Russia took part in the tournament. The main organizers of the event were the
SUSU Trade Union Committee and the SUSU Cybersports League. The partner of the event was the Student Coordination Council of the Ural Federal District.
The winners were awarded 5000 rubles, bomber jackets with the Trade Union Committee logo and branded prize-winner T-shirts.
Kirill Grigoryev, 1st-year student of SUSU was a captain of Groove Street. His team won the tournament.

“We were very happy to win and experienced unique emotions. All the teams were strong in their own ways so we had to adjust and impose our pace during the contest. We have been playing Dota 2 for five years and now we finally had a chance to show what we are capable of.”

Vladimir Kovganov, 3rd-year student of SUSU and one of the organizers of the tournament, also shared his emotions.

“Our SUSU is a truly awesome university. It does not only give an opportunity to study, but also to develop, enjoy and do exactly what s/he is interested in. All these things became possible due to extracurricular work and the Trade Union Committee.”

The organizers are sure that next time the tournament will be much bigger and will encompass a much bigger number of participants.
