One of the most attractive SUSU programs for foreign students is the program of food technology and safety of School of Medical Biology. Today Bachelors from Xuchang University (China) come to our university for 2 years to study dual diploma program.
“At our university students from China study academic major and specific disciplines in the sphere of food production, technological machines and equipment for the food sector. We take their knowledge as the basis for an educational program; we undertake re-evaluation of disciplines which they studied at Xuchang University. The curriculum is being compiled by us with taking into consideration peculiarities of Chinese food market and Chinese cuisine. In other words we make a focus on what is mostly often included in China diet (for example, products of soy processing, seafood, vegetables and fruit). Chinese students study here those technologies and techniques of food production which they will be able to apply in their future professional activities at home,” says Head of Food and Biotechnologies Department of SUSU, Doctor of Engineering, Professor Irina Potoroko.
Foreign students can get acquainted with the curriculum in advance and the system of distance education provides additional content which allows learning the peculiarities of certain disciplines. Classes are held in English and Russian languages. Moreover, graduate qualifying paper is being written in Russian and Chinese languages and is being presented by a student in two educational establishments.
“During the study the attendants of dual diploma program can undertake a practical training on the basis of companies and universities which are SUSU partners. They are being provided with a hostel which is situated near the university. Among special advantages is a possibility of being included into project education, says Irina Potoroko. “At present School of Medical Biology implements a number of projects on creation of new format products with the use of innovative approaches. It includes bread with “anti-stress” effect, yogurt and kefir which possess special useful characteristics, unique biologically active supplements and other.”
The program allows obtaining diploma of higher education at two universities simultaneously and its attendants are competitive professionals on the labor market. Nowadays SUSU School of Medical Biology carries out negotiations on cooperation with other Chinese universities. There are plans for opening dual diploma programs for Bachelors and Masters of Shenyang University. Moreover, possibility of academic exchange is being carried out for SUSU postgraduates who will be able to participate in investigations in the sphere of food ecology at Yantai University.
