SUSU Students Took Part in PROFEST-2018 Technology Festival

From March 7 through 9 of 2018, PROFEST-2018 All-Russian Technology Festival took place on the grounds of VDNH exhibition center; students of South Ural State University participated.

PROFEST All-Russian Technology Festival is the largest-in-Europe event in the sphere of children’s and youth’s engineering creativity, and the key events of the programs entitled “Robotic engineering: engineering cadres of innovative Russia” and “JuniorSkills”, implemented by the Volnoe Delo Oleg Deripaska Foundation.

Four teams of students from the Polytechnic Institute’s Department of Electric Drive and Industrial Automation represented SUSU at the Festival.

Two teams participated in the Engineering Project contest: the team Vector consisting of 4th-year students (Pavel Vanin, Vsevolod Vdovin and Dmitry Shchekolov, P-477) and the team Mechanicum consisting of 3rd-year students (Elizaveta Kotelnikova, Ekaterina Kuznetsova, Amirzhan Berestinov and Yan Firsov, P-377).

The goal of the Engineering Project contest is to direct the potential of talented young people discovered within the program into solving applied problems of certain enterprises; it provides an acquaintance with real-life manufacture and with engineering specialties, helps mastering skills of project thinking and project work in the engineering sphere, and stimulates engineering creativity among children and young people.

“This was the first time that I participated in Profest Festival, so I had a lot of new experience. During the preparation for the Engineering Project and Industrial Automation contests, our supervisor, Aleksandr Sergeevich Nesterov, spent a lot of time on our training. At the Festival I realized that these hours of training were not spent for nothing. Both times my team was well-prepared, and we performed well despite the absence of any experience. I am very grateful to South Ural State University for the opportunity to prove ourselves and take part in the festival on robotics engineering of all-Russian scale. For me it was an unforgettable experience, and I hope to participate in the next year’s Festival,” said participant of the Festival, a SUSU student, Elizaveta Kotelnikova.

In the result of defense of an engineering book and project presentation, both of our teams took prize-winning places: the team Vector took the second place, and the team Mechanicum – the third. Students were awarded with honorary credentials and with silver and bronze medals of the PROFEST-2018 Festival.
