In the age of Industry 4.0, digitalization of metal working processes is becoming more and more important. In contemporary mechanical engineering, metal-cutting machines form the main equipage for industrial purposes. SUSU scientists in cooperation with the world’s leader in production of thread-forming tools – the Vargus Company (Israel) – are going to develop recommendations on tool production using multi-axis machines with computer numerical control.
SUSU Institute of Open and Distance Education in collaboration with the Tsellyuloza (Cellulose) project have installed an eco-container on the territory of our university for collecting waste paper. Now all the staff members or students who care about environment can bring and pile in it waste paper, magazines or newspapers for recycling.
In the new academic year, SUSU’s Institute of Linguistics and International Communications announces admissions for bachelor’s degree programme in Political Management (major in Political Science). Graduates of this major will be in-demand abroad. Entrance examinations for applicants are Russian Language, History and Social Studies.

Institute of Supplementary Education invites to take a course of professional training “Enterprise (Business) Cost Assessment”. The aim of the programme is to study the modern methods and techniques of assessment activity, development of the practical skills of assessment including those which are necessary to determine the market cost of certain types of property and business (enterprise) in whole.
South Ural State University was visited by a delegation from Southwest Forestry University (China) intended to discuss prospects of cooperation with SUSU.
The delegation included Vice-President of Southwest Forestry University, Xu Hui, Director of International Exchange and Cooperation Office, Yang Song, and Dean of the Institute of Mechanical Engineering, Yang Yongfa.

Differential electric drives with synchronous outside-excitation jet engines is a relatively new field of research, which formed at SUSU in the 1980s. Earlier, a significant role in the development of the Ural scientific school of electric drive was played by the Department of Electric Drive and Automation of Industrial Installations of Chelyabinsk Polytechnic Institute (now SUSU).
Doctor of Sciences (Chemistry), Professor, Corresponding Member of the Russian Academy of Sciences German Vyatkin was the founder of Scientific School of High-temperature Melts Physical Chemistry. Nowadays, studies of this scientific school are conducted on the basis of the Department of Computer Modeling and Nanotechnology of Faculty of Physics of the Institute of Natural Sciences and Mathematics.
International Association for Media and Communication Research (IAMCR) is a Worldwide professional organisation which has almost 2000 of active members representing media companies and universities of France, Spain, Germany, India, Turkey, Czech Republic, Russia and other countries, among which there are more than 80 supervisors and mentors of profile sections and working groups, 30 members of the International Council, five members of executive authorities and representatives of various committees and target groups.
During the celebratory events that took place at SUSU from 10th through 14th of December of 2018, a project entitled “Digital History of SUSU” got presented at the university’s Exhibition Centre. In the course of this event, guests and university employees got introduced to a new website which features information about the history of CMEI, CPI, CSTU and SUSU, and uploaded digitalized documents regarding the university’s history as well as photo and video materials.

If we do not to consider alternative energy sources in advance, our descendants will be forced to move into caves and endure a primitive existence.
Research fellow of the SUSU REC of Eurasian Studies and Head of Archeos Centre Ivan Semyan has won an EXARC grant for joint research. The scientist is the only archaeologist representing Russia at EXARC. EXARC, an international experimental archaeology organisation, is an association of experimental archaeologists, as well as of open-air museums and archaeological parks.

What scientific discoveries await the humanity in the future? Today’s fundamental researches are targeted at improvement of information technologies, systems for processing and storing information, as well as at creation of a quantum computer which in many aspects will change the world and people’s lives.
Upon results of a competitive selection and by the Order of the Ministry of Education of the Russian Federation No.318 dated December 18 of 2018, South Ural State University has been included into the List of federal innovative platforms in the system of education for 2019-2023 with the project entitled “Establishment of an infrastructure for mass supplementary online education of children on the basis of interaction od educational institutions and enterprises of the region”.
The SUSU Department of Russian Language and Literature has been working with the University of Zurich Department of Slavonic Studies for several years now. The partnership is being fulfilled in all possible scientific fields: delivering lectures, participating in conferences, and joined work of the student journals SlavicumPress and Divan.
South Ural State University comprises dozens of strongest scientific schools of natural sciences, humanities and engineering. Many of those were established early in the 21st century. One of the young and promising scientific fields is being developed by the Scientific School of System Programming of the SUSU School of Electronic Engineering and Computer Science.
South Ural State University always responds to requests set before the region. At present among the most topical ones is the issue of the media ecological image of Chelyabinsk, which negatively affects the development of our region. To solve this problem, a complex project on the Ecology of Consciousness was elaborated by the SUSU Institute of Social Sciences and Humanities, and was initiated and coordinated by the Department of Philosophy.
On December 26, a festive event for the foreign students, devoted to the 2019 New Year, took place in Sigma Educational Building of South Ural State University.
This academic year began creatively for the foreign students: they took part in the Matriculation Ceremony, then presented their talents at various events and at the end of the year, they participated in a contest of the New Year Performances.
Foreign students from different countries, including Egypt, Ivory Coast, Algeria, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Congo, China, Iraq, and many others attended the event.
