SUSU Lecturer from the Institute of Media, Social Sciences and Humanities Becomes a Finalist in the SHUM All-Russian Award in Media and Journalism

Matvey Sholokhov, a lecturer at the Department of Journalism, Advertising and Public Relations and graduate student of the Institute of Media, Social Sciences and Humanities, has been selected as a participant in the SHUM All-Russian Award. He is presenting the "Two Great Victories" music video. The public vote, which is a key requirement for winning the competition, is currently underway.

This year, 15000 applications from across our country have been submitted to participate in the SHUM Award. The most popular category was "A Country of Heroes," dedicated to media projects about the 80th Anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War, attracting over 2500 contest works. Matvey's work is presented in this category.

The "Two Great Victories" music video created at the initiative of the Chelyabinsk State Philharmonic, tells a story of the courage, heroism, and continuity of generations of defenders of our Motherland. The project combines the events of the Great Patriotic War with modern realities, creating a bridge between the past and the present. The musical composition was created by Chelyabinsk artists: the lyrics were written by Nataliia Balynskaya, a poet, member of the Union of Writers of Russia, Doctor of Science (Politics), and Professor at the Department of Journalism, Advertising and Public Relations at SUSU. The composer was Polina Sergienko, a member of the Union of Russian Composers.

"Our music video, "Two Great Victories", symbolizes the Soviet people's monumental victory in the past and the hastening of the victory we all so eagerly await now. We also conveyed in the video that without the support of the home front, we would not feel the unity that sustains all service members on the front lines. And, of course, the great labour glory of Tankograd became the foundation for the entire visual narrative," notes Matvey Sholokhov.

The video features soloists from the Mariinsky and Bolshoi Theatres, the Chelyabinsk Region State Symphony Orchestra, and the Valery Mikhalchenko Chamber Choir. The project took seven months to create. 150 people became its participants. The video premiered at the Chelyabinsk Tractor Plant—the legendary Tankograd, symbolizing the strength of our country's rear.

The university's creative team worked on the video: Matvey Sholokhov acted as director and editor; Valeriia Bondar, a graduate student in the Institute of Media, Social Sciences and Humanities, acted as creative producer; Daniil Rukavitsyn, a cameraman and colourist at SUSU-TV, acted as camera operator and colourist; Yana Zaripova, a graduate student in the Department of Journalism, acted as assistant cameraperson; and Mikhail Andreev, a graduate student at SUSU, acted as sound designer. Voting will continue until October 18th, and each participant can vote once per day. You can support the project here.
