Consul General of the People's Republic of China Luo Shixiong Discussed Prospects of Scientific and Educational Cooperation at SUSU

The Consul General of the People's Republic of China in Yekaterinburg Luo Shixiong paid an official visit to South Ural State University. The visit program included meetings with the university and regional leadership, university tours, and communication with Chinese students obtaining their education at SUSU.

The visit began with an exhibition of scientific developments by researchers from South Ural State University. First Vice-Rector, Vice-Rector for Research Anton Korzhov spoke about our university's current key areas of research.

Next, a working meeting was held between the Consul General and the Rector of SUSU Alexander Wagner and the Minister of Education and Science of the Chelyabinsk Region Vitaly Litke. The parties discussed the prospects for expanding partnerships in education and science.

"It is a great honour for us to receive representatives of the friendly China. We highly value the strategic partnership and fraternal friendship between our countries and attach great importance to them. In the modern world, in the face of common challenges, it is more important than ever to strengthen trust, develop mutually beneficial cooperation and open new horizons through joint efforts. Joint research, academic exchange and implementation of innovative projects lay a solid foundation for the future prosperity of our peoples. We see great potential for expanding relations between SUSU and Chinese universities," said the SUSU Rector Alexander Wagner.

Minister of Education and Science of the Chelyabinsk Region Vitaly Litke emphasized the importance of strategic development of partnership in the educational sphere:

"The education and science system in our region is developing dynamically, and we are open to mutual partnership in a variety of areas. We are ready to continue active cooperation and expand it. Of particular interest to us are the creation of joint laboratories, development of academic student exchange, implementation of educational programmes and scientific projects. This will allow us to promote research and solutions on topics that are equally relevant for both China and Russia."

More than 1200 students from China study in various fields at South Ural State University. Our university cooperates with 20 leading universities in China, implementing joint programmes and summer schools for studying the Russian language.

Scientific cooperation is also actively conducted: over the past 10 years, more than 700 joint articles in the fields of nanotechnology, materials science, radio electronics, IT and healthcare have been published together with Chinese scientists. The China-Russia Joint Laboratory for Bioresources Processing is functioning, and big projects in the fields of medicine and biotechnologies are being implemented.

During the meeting, the Consul General paid special attention to the meeting with students from China taking training at SUSU. The guys shared their impressions of life and study in Chelyabinsk, talked about their plans for the future and participation in university projects.

"Promoting cooperation between our countries is one of the main missions. Education plays an important role in the development of bilateral relations between China and Russia. The visit to the capital of the South Ural region is aimed at getting acquainted with the achievements of the region, its socio-economic development, scientific and industrial potential. This will allow us to better understand the possibilities of interaction and determine the areas where we can be most useful to each other in our joint work," emphasized the Consul General of the People's Republic of China in Yekaterinburg Luo Shixiong.

Consul General Luo Shixiong also visited the “Journey to China” photo exhibition at SUSU, which presented more than 70 works by famous Chinese photo artists depicting modern life and traditions of China.

The visit wrapped up with a tour of the Faculty of Mechatronics and Robotics (a joint project of SUSU and the Chelyabinsk Forge-and-Press Plant) guided by the Director of the SUSU Institute of Engineering and Technology Mikhail Ivanov. Consul General Luo Shixiong could see modern laboratories and learn about the scientific projects being implemented by students and teachers of our university.
