On August 30th, on the eve of the Knowledge Day, South Ural State University opened its doors to first-year students. On this day, students met with directors of the schools and institutes, received the long-desired student ID cards, got to meet their groupmates and learned more about the university's traditions.
Getting started with the university is an important step towards the new student life. In the course of the meetings, first-year students spoke with teaching staff, learned about the specifics of studying at one of the leading universities in our region and about the opportunities that SUSU provides not only in terms of studying, but also for development in a variety of areas.
Departments’ staff members, as well as directors of the SUSU schools and institutes congratulated first-year students on the beginning of a new stage in their lives.
Institute of Architecture and Construction
“The years spent studying at the university is one of the brightest stages in a person's life, and the memories of it will remain with you forever. Our university offers you a wide range of opportunities for self-realization, study, and future. Therefore, do not miss on this moment, take the maximum from your studies, and we will help you with this,” Aleksandr Kiyanets, Director of the Institute of Architecture and Construction, congratulated first-year students.
School of Medical Biology
“Knowledge forms your professional skills, supplemented by participation in extracurricular activities and creative initiatives. Today, it is symbolic to see students of all levels of training: future Bachelor’s, Specialist, and Master’s students. I am happy to see among you many of those who have decided to continue their education at their alma mater!” said Director of the School of Medical Biology Irina Potoroko.
“After graduating from medical college, I decided to enrol in the Psychology of Service Activities programme at South Ural State University, because I strive to help people in the future,” shared first-year student of the School of Medical Biology Ilia Zmachinsky.

School of Economics and Management
“Today, you are awarded the title of students of South Ural State University. I hope that during training, everyone will be able to find their area of interest and uncover the potential of their profession. The university provides plenty of opportunities: participation in festivals, work in student groups, sections and student clubs. Today, you have chosen the right vector for your development!” SUSU Vice-Rector for Student and Social Affairs, Associate Professor of the School of Economics and Management Anastasiia Lapo gave the welcome speech.

School of Electronic Engineering and Computer Science

Many people I know studied here, and I decided to choose this university, I think that studying here will be informative and interesting. I am from a different city, and when my family and I came to Chelyabinsk, I saw SUSU and admired it, and now I am a student here!” shared a student of the School of Electronic Engineering and Computer Science Viktoriia Sholokhova.
Institute of Media, Social Sciences and Humanities

For you, dear first-year students, all the conditions have been created here to master the profession in practice,” said Director of the Institute of Media, Social Sciences and Humanities Lidiya Lobodenko.
The Institute of Media, Social Sciences and Humanities is a well-established scientific and educational complex that combines theoretical and methodological achievements and practical experience of leading Russian and international scientific schools in the humanitarian sphere. “I feel a little confused right now. I like everything I already know about my programme, but I want to learn more. I want to see the laboratories and classrooms, and meet the teachers. I know some people here, which is a good thing,” shared a student of the Institute of Natural Sciences and Mathematics Maksim Natov.
