SUSU Honoured the Memory of Heroes on the 80th Anniversary of the Great Victory

South Ural State University actively participated in the celebration of the 80th Anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War. Rector Alexander Wagner, academic and administrative staff, and university students joined the city events, paying tribute to the feat of their ancestors.

Solemn laying of flowers to the Eternal Fire

On the morning of May 9th, a ceremony of laying flowers with the participation of the Governor of the Chelyabinsk Region Alexey Texler, veterans, government officials, university employees and residents of our city was held at the memorial.

“Dear fellow countrymen, dear veterans! I sincerely congratulate you on the anniversary of the Great Victory. It is for the 80th time that our country solemnly celebrates the most sacred date in its history. This is a great holiday, the day of memory of the departed heroes, the day of the triumph of the people who survived and won. Our main task today is to be worthy of the glory of the heroes and their exploits, to carefully keep the connection of generations. 360 thousand of our fellow countrymen went to the front. We thank our veterans, fighters and the entire Chelyabinsk Region, the working people of our country. Happy Anniversary, Happy Great Victory Day!” Alexey Texler addressed the residents of our city.

During the ceremony, the participants honoured the memory of the dead with a minute of silence and expressed gratitude to the veterans for their courage, stamina and freedom for future generations.

SUSU students are the participants in the Victory Parade

The main event of the day took place on the Revolution Square - the solemn parade of the troops of the Chelyabinsk garrison. It was attended by 160 students of the SUSU Military Training Centre − this is a record number of representatives of one university this year. Other 80 students carried standards with the symbols of the military of the troops and the key dates of military history.

Traditionally, our students, the students of the Military Training Centre, take part in the festive events dedicated to the Victory Day. This holiday embodies the unity of our entire nation. It is very important that students take part in the Victory Parade with great interest, responsibility, pride and deep understanding. More than 1600 people study at the SUSU Military Training Centre and only about 200 of them are honoured to march along the main square of our city. I sincerely congratulate all the students and employees of the university on the holiday of the Great Victory!" noted the SUSU Rector Alexander Wagner.

Thus, the total number of participants from our university was 240 people – the absolute record figure for the entire period of the university’s participation in the parade.

"The Military Training Centre began preparing for the Victory Parade in March. During training and the parade itself, students are imbued with the history of Victory Day, and this event will remain in their memory forever," said Colonel Nikolai Karpov, Head of the SUSU Military Training Centre.

Continuation of the holiday: concert and Immortal Regiment

The celebrations ended near the SUSU main building with a festive concert and the Immortal Regiment March, in which thousands of Chelyabinsk residents carried portraits of their heroes.

The university's participation in the Victory Day events emphasizes the importance of patriotic education of students, preserving historical memory and respect for the feat of our ancestors.

"I always dreamed of taking part in the parade, and I am very happy that I was chosen out of all the students. It was difficult, very difficult training, and today we are standing here to take part in this great holiday. Victory Day is a family holiday for me, my great-grandfather fought, and every year we honour the memory of the heroes," shared SUSU student of the Military Training Centre Kirill Tsepkov.
