SUSU Scientific Regiment: Vera P. Emelyanova (Masaylova)

Vera P. Emelyanova (Masaylova) was born on August 23, 1921. She was enlisted in the Red Army in 1941: 90th airdrome battalion, signal troop, junior sergeant, leading radio communications operator. Operational record: Moscow region, the Baltic states, Poland, and Germany. She greeted the Victory Day in Germany. She was not injured during the war and was discharged from the army in October of 1945. Her favourite war-time song is the Blue Handkerchief.

Vera P. Emelyanova (Masaylova) was awarded the Order of the Patriotic War of the 2nd class, Medals “For the Victory Over Germany in the Great Patriotic War 1941–1945”, Medal of Zhukov, and Badge “1941-1945 War Veteran”. She also received Jubilee Medals “Twenty Years of Victory in the Great Patriotic War 1941–1945”, “Thirty Years of Victory in the Great Patriotic War 1941–1945”, “Forty Years of Victory in the Great Patriotic War 1941–1945”, “Fifty Years of Victory in the Great Patriotic War 1941–1945”, “50 Years of the Armed Forces of the USSR”, “60 Years of the Armed Forces of the USSR”, and “70 Years of the Armed Forces of the USSR”.

In 1949 she graduated from the Ural Polytechnic Institute in Sverdlovsk. Also there she completed her postgraduate studies. She defended her thesis and obtained the academic degree of a Candidate of Sciences (Engineering). She was assigned to work in Chelyabinsk. Starting from August 30, 1951, she was holding the position of a senior lecturer at the Department of General Chemistry at the Chelyabinsk Polytechnic Institute (CPI). Later she was transferred to a position of the Department’s Associate Professor. For more than 10 years she was elected the Communist Party organizer at the Department. Her total occupational life amounts to 26 years: from 1951 through 1977.

Vera P. Emelyanova (Masaylova) is also a holder of labour awards: Medal “For Valiant Labour. In Commemoration of the 100th Anniversary of the Birth of Vladimir Ilyich Lenin”, “Veteran of Labour”, and Badge “Veteran of CPI”.
