For the second time now, ANO “Tsifrovaya ekonimoka”, with the support from the Ministry of Digital Development, Communications and Mass Media and the Information & Computer Technologies Industry Association (APKIT), has presented a ranking of digital economy universities. The ranking experts evaluated more than 300 major Russian universities, which train IT specialists in both classical fields (Computer and Information Sciences; Computer Science and Computers; Information Security, etc.) and other special fields. The ranking lists were compiled separately for Moscow and Saint Petersburg universities and for regional universities.
South Ural State University took the 10th place in the regional universities ranking and became the only representative of the Chelyabinsk Region there.
Universities were ranked according to two criteria: employers’ opinion on the effectiveness of IT programmes in universities and the scale of training IT personnel at universities.
The first parameter was determined upon the results of polling among big technology companies (Yandex; Skolkovo; Rostelecom; Rostec; and others). In the course of the survey, heads of IT and HR subdivisions noted the universities, with which they cooperate in the IT field, the graduates of which they prefer to hire, and at which the best young specialists from their team studied no more than three years ago. In their interviews, representatives of these companies mentioned 169 universities from 59 regions of our country.
The second criterion (the scale of training IT personnel at universities) was determined as per the number of students accepted for the industry-specific programmes. Only those universities, which accepted no less than 300 applicants for state-funded and contract-based IT programmes in 2024, made it to the ranking.
