On October 29th, a panel discussion on the UIREC Development Strategy for 2025-2030 was held in the SUSU Council Assembly Hall as part of the Science Days in the Chelyabinsk Region event. The World-class Ural Interregional Research and Education Centre for Advanced Industrial Technologies and Materials (UIREC) is participating in the Chelyabinsk Science Days for the third year in a row. This year, it presents stands demonstrating projects fulfilled jointly with SUSU.
The discussion was attended by the SUSU Rector Alexander Wagner, Assistant to the Plenipotentiary of the President of the Russian Federation in the Ural Federal District Evgenii Gurarii, Director for the UIREC Development Igor Manzhurov, and Deputy Director of the Russian Scientific Information Centre Irina Zhurbina.
The SUSU Rector Alexander Wagner noted the importance of joint projects with UIREC as "assembly points" of industry and science. He expressed the wish that such projects would be more ambitious in the future – not limited to the scale of an enterprise or region, but solve the problems of creating technologies at the federal level, for the industry, and for our country.
The Director for the UIREC Development Igor Manzhurov, spoke about both the scientific and educational projects of the centre: Master's degree programmes and “urgent educational assistance for enterprises” that provide engineers at enterprises with the necessary competencies.
"I would like to thank the Governor of the Chelyabinsk Region, Alexey Texler, for this event and for the tangible support he provides to the development of science in the region," said Dmitry Manzhurov. "Russia faces serious challenges today, and we must overcome them with the joint efforts of our scientists and our industry. Developing technologies, reducing production costs, import substitution, technological independence – all these are difficult tasks. And it is gratifying when scientists begin to help chief designers and technologists solve them, bringing their knowledge to industry, this is very valuable."
Deputy Director of the Russian Scientific Information Centre Irina Zhurbina explained why the UIREC is among the top four regional RECs in our country. Experts assessed the activities of the UIREC against a five-point scale based on 12 criteria. The Urals received many "fives", and in total, 49 points out of the maximum 60. As a wish to scientists working on UIREC projects, she suggested striving for terminological unity and ensuring higher traceability of their scientific results.
During the discussion, SUSU scientists Mikhail Dziuba and Dmitry Ardashev, as well as representatives of Chelyabinsk State University, Nosov Magnitogorsk State Technical University (Magnitogorsk), and KSU (Kurgan) spoke about their scientific work.
