The Bank of Russia Held a Class on Financial Literacy for International Students

The Department of Economics and Finance of the SUSU School of Economics and Management has been training students in the Financial Literacy for International Students supplementary educational programme for the third year now.

The programme helps students better understand how to manage their finances in a new country to avoid financial difficulties.

The programme is being implemented within the frameworks of a cooperation agreement between SUSU and the Branch of the Bank of Russia in the Chelyabinsk Region to improve financial literacy of the population of the Chelyabinsk Region.

On May 20th, specialists from the Chelyabinsk branch of the Bank of Russia V. Shurunov and T. Dolgusheva held a class on protecting personal finances from fraud, and gave tips on safe use of cards on the Internet and when withdrawing cash. Also, Central Bank experts gave advice on smart investing to students.

Students from different countries, such as India, Sudan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, and Azerbaijan attended the event.

Vladimir Shurunov emphasized the importance of awareness of financial services and risks for international students living in Russia.

“The Bank of Russia puts big emphasis on holding financial literacy events for young people, and especially for international students. In modern dynamic and digital world, they need to understand both trends and, most importantly, risks they may face. The knowledge of financial literacy will allow them to avoid financial fraud, which is one of the most common and dangerous forms of crime in the modern world.”

Each participant of the event received useful materials and memorable souvenirs from the Bank of Russia.

The programme is organised under the leadership of Nina Zhdanova, Candidate of Sciences (Economics), Associate Professor of the Department of Economics and Finance of the SUSU School of Economics and Management.
