Share a Chance for Life: Blood Donor Day Held at SUSU

Within the frameworks of the 2023 plan of events on organizing the mass-cultural, physical-education, sports and recreational work with students, the Extracurricular Activities Office organized and held the Blood Donor Day on June 9th. This campaign was held before the main university building and in the 3rd-floor hall of the main building. In the morning of the event day, those willing to donate blood gathered near the specially-equipped mobile unit.

Donated blood is the primary aid for people injured in natural and technogenic catastrophes, in military conflicts, or those suffering, for example, from leukaemia or haemophilia. That is why hospitals must always have a blood bank, including in case of emergencies.

Our university has a good tradition of organizing such campaigns several times a year. The goal is to promote social responsibility among students and draw attention to the importance of donating blood. SUSU collaborates with the Blood Transfusion Centre of the Federal Medico-Biological Agency of Russia for the City of Chelyabinsk and with the Chelyabinsk Regional Blood Transfusion Centre.

"Our students always participate in such campaigns as they understand their importance. They have a positive attitude about it: if you become a donor, your blood can save someone's life, including that of your near and dear ones if they get into trouble. The realization of this fact gives you a big emotional uplift," shared Deputy Chairperson of the Trade Union Committee, inspector of the Volunteer Activity Office Vlada Nedotko. "Many students participate several times in a row. It's very convenient that a mobile station comes to the university, so you don't have to go anywhere. Examination sessions are in progress now, so many students come right after they pass their exam. We always inform about our next campaign beforehand, through announcements, trade union leaders and mentors, and social networks. Some people learn about our campaigns through their relatives or friends, and some bring their friends along with them. Donors share a part of themselves (their life, their warmth and soul) with those who might need their blood."

Next campaign is planned to be held in autumn.
