Applicant 2021: SUSU Students Are Taught to Develop 5G Networks

Specialists in the field of information processing and transmission, radio navigation and radio control are trained at the Department of Information Communication Technology of South Ural State University. Students are taught how to work with digital communication system and even with 5G networks, with which the global IT giant Huawei is helping.

No future without communication systems

The importance of communication systems became apparent in 2020: when the whole world appeared to be in a “remote” format due to the coronavirus pandemic, it was only thanks to the smooth operation of the Internet and mobile communications that it was possible to maintain life in the same mode. However, this would not have been possible without specialists in the field of information communication technologies.

Qualified personnel, high-in-demand on the labour market, are trained at the Department of Information Communication Technology of the SUSU School of Electronic Engineering and Computer Science. Graduates know everything about mobile communication systems, as well as radio electronic systems and complexes.

“To be successful in life, it is necessary to obtain an education that corresponds to the current and future development of the country, its science-intensive production to meet the growing human needs. Modern world is the world of digital technologies. Currently, there is an urgent need for highly-qualified specialists in the field of digital communication systems, radio navigation, radar location and radio control,” said Doctor of Sciences (Engineering), Head of the Department of Information Communication Technology Stanislav Darovskikh.

Become a specialist in the field of digital technologies

The department provides a three-level education system, and has a distinctive feature as Specialist degree programme. Specialists who choose the Radio Electronic Systems and Complexes programme study for five years. They acquire skills in the development and design of modern systems and complexes, their operation and maintenance, analysis and optimization of digital algorithms for radar location information.

Bachelor’s degree students are offered the Mobile Communication Systems programme. In the course of studying, they gain knowledge on the development of documentation and design work, the design of infocommunication networks and the operation of infocommunication equipment.

In the Master's degree programme, students deepen their knowledge in the field of mobile communication systems, as well as master modern digital algorithms for processing, coding and protecting information.

Postgraduates can choose from four programmes at once: Informatics and Computer Engineering programme; System Analysis, Management and Information Processing programme; Radar Location and Radio Navigation programme; and Electronic and Radio Engineering, Communication Systems programme. Graduates will be prepared for the implementation of scientific and pedagogical activities in higher school, for the development and implementation of new technologies of Industry 4.0.

Unique opportunities for best students

Students of the Department of Information Communication Technology individually design and create digital electronic systems in the FabLab world-class laboratory.

Besides, the most successful students are given a chance to take a special course developed by the specialists of the department together with representatives of Huawei. It aims to introduce students to the latest generation of 5G mobile networks, and the key technologies and protocols used to evolve them.

To become a student of the Department of Information Communication Technology, it is necessary to pass the Unified State Examination in profile Mathematics, Russian Language and Computer Science or Physics. Students can enrol in the Master’s degree or postgraduate studies programme based on the results of an internal test and the interview.

South Ural State University (SUSU) is a university of digital transformations, where innovative research is conducted in most of the priority fields of science and technology development. In accordance with the strategy of scientific and technological development of the Russian Federation, the university is focused on the development of big scientific interdisciplinary projects in the field of digital industry, materials science, and ecology. In the Year of Science and Technology, it will take part in the competition under the Priority-2030 program. The university acts as a regional project office of the World-class Ural Interregional Research and Education Centre (UIREC).
