5000th SUSU Applicant Plans to Master Clinical Psychology

The Admissions Campaign is well underway at South Ural State University. Today a five thousandth applicant has submitted her documents to the university. It is Alena Ershova from the village of Novogorny, Ozersk Urban District.

"I chose the educational programme in Clinical Psychology. Since there is a possibility to choose several majors, I also applied for Employment Psychology, and Sociology as a fall-back," says Alena Ershova.

The girl says that she chose the university for admission on the advice of her brothers who already studied at SUSU:

"The university has a professional teaching staff and supports students in all endeavours. There is also an opportunity to participate in various scientific conferences."

About three weeks have passed since the start of the Admissions Campaign. From the beginning of July, its active stage began: schoolchildren received secondary school certificates and began to apply en masse.

"Every year about 10000 people apply to SUSU, so we have already met half of the applicants," says Andrey Radionov, Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs. "And today we congratulate the jubilee five thousandth applicant. I hope Alena will do well, she will enrol in SUSU and will be successful in her studies. In general, the Admissions Campaign is going on actively, we have reached the "pre-pandemic" level in terms of the number of applicants."

From year to year, the preferences of applicants do not change. According to the executive secretary of the SUSU Admissions Committee, Aleksandr Gubarev, specialties in the humanities and economics are in demand among students, and speaking of technical ones − specialties related to informatics and construction are popular.

"About 1/3 of applicants come to the Admissions Office personally, the rest submit documents via the Internet. The year 2020 taught us to communicate remotely," notes Aleksandr Gubarev.

Remote work with applicants is not a novelty for SUSU. For more than 10 years now, everyone has been having an opportunity to submit documents via the Internet thanks to the Univeris Corporate Information and Analytical System operating at the university. This year, applicants can also apply through the Common Government Services Portal of the Russian Federation (www.gosuslugi.ru).

Order of Admission will be published on the university website on August 17th. On this day, SUSU applicants will find out if they were able to qualify for free tuition. More than 3000 people will be able to study on a state-funded basis in the new academic year.

"I wish our future students to be proactive. Student years are the best ones, and I always say that you need to take everything that the university gives you, not only in terms of study, but also in terms of other activities − to participate in sports, cultural events, Olympiads and contests," emphasizes Andrey Radionov.

Today SUSU is one of the leaders in modern Russian education, the university in which students have the opportunity to fully realize their potential not only in scientific activities, but also in sports, creativity, and volunteering. You can learn more about the opportunities SUSU provides to its students this Saturday, July 10th, at the traditional "Hour with the Rector", during which Aleksandr Shestakov will answer all the questions of applicants and their parents. The meeting starts in the SUSU Assembly Hall on the 2nd floor of University Main Building, 76 Lenin Prospekt at 12:00.
