SUSU Students Tried Their Hands at Developing Digital Solutions

The iTerritory Open Day, which has already become traditional, welcomed guests once again. The Centre was visited by students majoring in Applied Mathematics and Informatics at the SUSU Institute of Natural Sciences and Mathematics within the frameworks of the Employers Assembly of South Ural State University.

The event was held with the support from the Ministry of Information Technology, Communication and Digital Development of the Chelyabinsk Region. At the opening, the students were greeted by the Head of the Analysis and Support of Digital Development of the Regional IT Department Lidiia Migunova.

"The Chelyabinsk Region is actively involved in the implementation of the Digital Economy National Project. We are interested in cooperation and try to help everyone to unfold their potential. It is important for us that you are involved in the innovative projects that we create, in the processes aimed at the development of our region," says the representative of the Ministry of Information Technology, Communication and Digital Development of the Chelyabinsk Region.

"The close relationship of the Institute with employers allows us to keep pace with the times. At meetings, students have a unique opportunity to communicate directly with people who use this knowledge in practice. Representatives of companies and enterprises tell them about the competencies that employers are currently interested in, invite students for internships, practical training, and even make job offers," says Director of the Institute of Natural Sciences and Mathematics Alena Zamyshliaeva.

At the iTerritory Open Day, Director of the Chelyabinsk Regional Centre for Navigation and Information Technologies Ilia Filatov, and Deputy Director Mikhail Pichik introduced students to the fields of work and interesting projects. Some of the iTerritory solutions were implemented with the participation of students, for example, the "Let's Remember Everyone by Name" portal, which became a laureate in the PROF IT Competition. Under the guidance of experienced mentors of the Centre, future specialists are currently working on another project, the development of a chatbot for polyclinics in Chelyabinsk. During the conducted tour of the Centre, students learned about its current vacancies and how to take an internship in the iTerritory.

The second part of the meeting had a purely practical orientation: the students chose practices and topics that are of interest to them. One group, led by the chief specialists of the iTerritory Alfiia Zaripova and Tatiana Anferova, was engaged in the development of the software interface of the electronic document management system for the authorities. The guests actively asked questions, and the discussion turned out to be very interesting.

Another group, together with the chief specialist for departmental projects of the Ministry of Information Technology, Communication and Digital Development of the Chelyabinsk Region Sergei Zakharov, was looking for new IT solutions to eliminate the causes of citizens' questions. For this, the participants identified the issue under study among the main complaints of residents, performed structural analysis of the selected problem and proposed IT solutions aimed at eliminating this cause. During a short practical training, they also got acquainted with K. Ishikawa's method for finding the true cause of problems.

At the end of the event, at a coffee break, students asked the managers questions, expressed interest in taking internship and participating in such meetings with developers.

"Our guests highly appreciated the event − according to the results of the questionnaire, the average efficiency score was 8.7 points, which is 1.6 points higher than the score at previous meetings. We thank all those present for their active participation! The next iTerritory Open Day is planned to be held in October−November 2021," noted HR specialist at iTerritory Tatiana Badrieva.
