The IMSSH Media Planet International Contest Brought Together More than 650 Participants from Different Countries

The Institute of Media, Social Sciences and Humanities (IMSSH) has summed up the results of the 6th Media Planet contest and festival of school and student mass media. The event was held within the frameworks of the Communication Leader of the 21st Century International Scientific and Educational Forum.

The Media Planet contest and festival has been held at the Institute of Media, Social Sciences and Humanities for the sixth year now. It is aimed to form the image of SUSU and support the youth intellectual environment, and to organize assistance to students and schoolchildren in unleashing their creative potential in the journalistic sphere.

“From year to year, the Media Planet is expanding its geography. School pupils and students from more than 100 educational institutions of different countries and cities participate in it,” says Doctor of Sciences (Philology), Director of the Institute of Media, Social Sciences and Humanities Lidiya Lobodenko. “In the context of the ongoing pandemic, the contest and festival of school and student mass media provided real conditions for preserving and developing communication among school pupils, students, and universities of different countries. This year the competition has brought together more than 650 participants from Poland, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Denmark, and different cities in Russia: Moscow, St. Petersburg, Voronezh, Togliatti, Saratov, Chita, Evpatoria, Ozersk, Magnitogorsk, and Chelyabinsk.”

The works sent to the contest were examined in a distance format. The jury members gave a high appraisal to the journalistic materials and especially noted the growth of professional skills of the contest participants.

“This year, the number of applications in all fields has increased,” notes Doctor of Sciences (Philology), Head of the Department of Journalism, Advertising and Public Relations Liudmila Shesterkina. “The quality of the works has also improved. Journalistic materials have become more interesting and professional. I would like to especially note the materials by students from St Petersburg University, Voronezh State University, Togliatti State University, as well as Transbaikal State University and, of course, by our students.”

The Media Planet contest and festival is organized in such fields as Television, Radio Broadcasting, Internet Mass Media and Social Networks, International Journalism, as well as Print Media. There are five nominations in each field: Social Reporting, Exciting Story, A Hero of Our Time, Mobile Reporter, and Alma Mater. Elena Esina, Head of the KaRUsel School Studio of Child Journalism, Ulyanovsk, takes part in the contest for the sixth time and specifically emphasizes that:

“Participating in the Media Planet festival always feels like a celebration for children. Being a head of our school, I am glad that our works are always highly appraised by the jury members, and we have been the winners more than once in the fields of Television and Radio Broadcasting. We are happy that despite all the restrictions, the Media Planet festival has been held. Each festival motivates juniors to reach new heights. And, of course, we are all looking forward to meeting with colleagues in Chelyabinsk in 2022!”

One of the key moments of the Media Planet festival became the exchange of experience between students and practicing media specialists of the leading media, which was organized in the form of master classes.

“Our students in the in-person/distance format took part in 12 interesting master classes, including a meeting with the Deputy Director for Information Policy of the Granada Press Publishing House Andrei Trushnikov, editor-in-chief of the Khoroshie Novosti (Good News) web-site Aleksandr Oleksiuk, Head of the SUSU Mediacommunications and Monitoring Office, Associate Professor of the Department of Journalism, Advertising and Public Relations of the Institute of Media, Social Sciences and Humanities Elena Davletshina, and also attended a master class by the special correspondent of Izvestia Saint Petersburg Vladislav Chukhrov, and more” says the manager of the forum, Deputy Head of the Department of Journalism, Advertising and Public Relations of the Institute of Media, Social Sciences and Humanities Arina Marfitsyna.
