Computer Security Day at South Ural State University

Nowadays, electronic devices such as smartphones, tablets, and computers are an important component of our everyday lives. While communication has become easier and more efficient than ever before, these technological advancements have brought with them new concerns about privacy and security. So there’s even a holiday dedicated to keeping your online data safe and secure – it’s called Computer Security Day.

Identity thefts, fraud, ransomware, viruses, and more constantly attack computers worldwide. They seek the most vulnerable users. In an instant, they take us offline, derailing a lifetime of accomplishment. While hacking and viruses have virtually been around since the early days of modern computing, evolving and increasingly sophisticated technologies began to see more applications, and therefore more security risks due to the simple fact that more data was at risk as computers found their way into banks, government offices, and businesses.

South Ural State University has a long history of preparing specialists who are able to prevent cyber threats, eliminate their consequences, and protect personal information and data related to the operation of entire enterprises. The School of Electronic Engineering and Computer Science has many majors in which an applicant will get necessary knowledge and skills to compete in the labor market. Great theoretical basis and laboratory infrastructure of the school attract many young people to get the education every year.

Computer Security Day on November 30th reminds us to protect our computers. And the most obvious way to celebrate the holiday would be to focus on ensuring that all your devices, and the data are all secure. The most important thing to do for your online security is to have strong passwords and update them. It’s a good idea to review your computer’s security on a regular basis.

We have made up a checklist for you to secure your computer:

  • Enable Windows Update.

  • Install and keep running antivirus software.

  • Keep all software updated.

  • Always use strong passwords for social media, mails and your computer.

  • Don’t share passwords and don’t write them down.

  • Remove unused programs.

  • Secure your wireless network.

  • Back up critical data.

  • Use caution when browsing the Internet.

  • Log off the computer when you are not using it.

  • Be sure that your web browser does not store or remember your passwords.

  • Periodically remove temporary Internet files.

We cannot imagine our modern world without computers and smartphones, without social networking and messengers. So remember about the holiday and observe your online safety and security regularly.
