Academic Year at SUSU Started with the Observance of the Requirement to Wear Masks

South Ural State University has started the academic year with the people wearing medical face masks. To protect themselves from viral infections, SUSU students

According to the Minister of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation Valeriy Falkov, 90% of universities in our country will start the academic year as usual, and South Ural State University is not an exception.

“Coming to classes at the university, SUSU students and teachers must follow the requirement to wear masks. One should note that classes will be held both in a face-to-face and in an online mode. If the classes are to be held face-to-face, then students will be sitting in a classroom in such a way that the required distancing is maintained,” said Zlata Almetova, Deputy Dean of the Automobile and Tractor Engineering Faculty.

In addition to the mask-wearing requirements for the SUSU teaching staff and students, the preventive measures to viral diseases are provided. The temperature of the incoming people is measured at all the university buildings’ entrances. No one with fever and symptoms of viral diseases is admitted to the university. In addition, such measures as social distancing, regular ventilation and disinfection of premises, thermometry, keeping records of the health status and contacts of the university staff, as well as preventive talks are carried out.

“My classmates and I fully comply with the mask regime. I think it is very important as we care not only about our own health, but also about the health of those around us. The main advantage is that the possibility of getting infected is reduced to zero, and the disadvantage is the inconvenience of wearing the mask itself. Nevertheless, you quickly get used to it,” says Evgeniy Kurylev, a first-year student of the major in “Construction Engineering” of the Institute of Architecture and Construction.

Master’s degree students also had to adapt to the daily wearing of masks.

“I think that in the current situation it is really necessary to wear masks and the talks like ‘it will not affect me’ are not appropriate here. The mask-wearing requirement is a good preventive measure against any viral diseases if I understand it correctly, but I really don't want to miss classes and then catch up and complete the missed assignments due to illness,” said Evgeniy Zagoskin, a Master's degree student at the SUSU Institute of Media, Social Sciences and Humanities.
