You Can Earn an Additional Specialty in the Sphere of Russian Language at SUSU

The SUSU Institute of Linguistics and International Communications invites you to continuing education courses: Translator in the Field of Professional Communications (Russian); Theory and Practice of Teaching Russian as a Foreign Language.

The programmes are available both through in-person classes and online.

The programme Translator in the Field of Professional Communications (Russian Language) examines issues of multicultural communication, the theory of translation, the stylistics of Russian and the culture of speech, and literary editing of translated documents. The programme includes a practical seminar on teaching and on the culture of spoken communication in Russian. It also includes practical training on obtaining professional skills and work experience.

Graduates of the programme perfect their lexical and grammatical skills in Russian, get to know the specifics of business documentation and communications, and learn to draw up business documents. Graduates will obtain the skills of supporting intercultural communication in various fields; they can act as a middle-man (interpreter) in intercultural communications; they will learn to use translation technologies with consideration to the text being translated to obtain the best communicative effect.

The programme is designed for 400 hours and intended for international students, Master’s degree students, and postgraduates. Upon completion, students will earn a diploma certifying their professional re-training.

“The profession of a translator holds a special place in the world. Our goal is not just to transfer information, but also to preserve cultural aspects and clearly and precisely word our thoughts. This is what students of the Translator in the Field of Professional Communications are taught. My expectations of this course were met completely. The most important thing is that we had a lot of practical training, thanks to which I understood that I want to be a translator,” said graduate of the programme for professional re-training, Wang Yuying.

Attendees of the Theory and Practice of Teaching Russian as a Foreign Language programme are students and teachers from Russia, Turkmenistan, China, Iraq, Algeria, and Jordan, who speak of the growing interest to the Russian language and the need to obtain additional qualifications to teach Russian abroad. The programme considers issues of the methodology of teaching Russian as a foreign language; the phonetic, lexical, and grammatical aspects of teaching; teaching all forms of speech activity; and testing methods for Russian as a foreign language.

In the first semester, students take courses in linguoculturology and intercultural communication, pedagogy, and modern Russian literary language. In the second semester, they learn the characteristics of the methods of teaching Russian as a foreign language, different forms of speech activity, and undergo pedagogical practice with groups of foreign students of SUSU schools and institutes.

The programme workload is 350 hours. Upon completion, students obtain a diploma of professional re-training.
