Profession of an Instrumentation Engineer Is Popular in the Era of Industry 4.0

An instrumentation engineer is the heart and brain of any enterprise. At present, it is this specialist who is responsible for the digitalization of a company and its transition to the path of Industry 4.0, and who ensures efficient operation of devices and systems that control the industrial processes.

The Department of Informational and Measuring Technology of the School of Electronic Engineering and Computer Science of South Ural State University trains specialists in the field of Instrumentation Engineering, continuing the 60-year tradition of engineering education in the South Ural region.

At SUSU, the future instrumentation engineers can engage in full-fledged scientific activities, solve real problems in the field of digitalization of industrial systems, from the very first year of studies. And the best among them are involved in research in the field of signal processing, measuring technology and self-diagnostics of technical systems at the international scientific laboratory headed by Professor Manus Henry, University of Oxford, Great Britain.

SUSU students in the Instrumentation Engineering programme master new types of measuring systems, control systems, including those based on artificial intelligence, artificial neural networks, using state-of-the-art equipment and systems.

Emerson Corporation, which is the world leader in industrial automation, is the strategic partner in this field. Thanks to the Emerson Competence Centre, opened in 2018 at SUSU, students can get acquainted with all the key elements of the digital transformation of industrial enterprises and the specifics of working in production. A promising profession of an engineer for the development of automation systems and software development becomes available for them.

Dozens of students of the SUSU School of Electronic Engineering and Computer Science receive personal funding for their research projects within the framework of special programs provided they are engaged in scientific research or win all-Russian or international Olympiads. Many students obtain education abroad and participate in Double Degree programs and academic mobility programs.

Graduates of South Ural State University become welcomed employees at Emerson Corporation and other big industrial enterprises.
