SUSU Student Team “Young’s Modulus” Represented the University at the INST International Tournament

The 10th International Natural Sciences Tournament (INST) was held in Warsaw. This is a team competition between university students from around the world to solve previously published scientific problems in physics, chemistry, and biology. Students from SUSU participated in the tournament.

17 teams participated in the in-person round of the tournament: representatives from Singapore, Egypt, Poland, India, Indonesia, France, Ukraine, Russia, and other countries.

The team “Young’s Modulus”, consisting of students from SUSU, ChelSU, and Harbin Institute of Technology, represented our university: team captain Aleksey Popov (SUSU, Faculty of Aerospace Engineering), Aleksey Batalov (SUSU, Faculty of Chemistry), Olga Borodina (SUSU, Faculty of Chemistry), Polina Fortygina (Harbin Institute of Technology), and Elizaveta Orlova (ChelSU).

The selection round consisted of three battles, after which the six best teams continued to the semi-final. During the battles, our team went head-to-head with teams from Ukraine, Poland, MSU, Skoltech, and St. Petersburg University. After the selection battles, our team from the 4th place made it to the semi-final. The teams from Singapore, Egypt, Ukraine, and Poland fought in the semi-final. Our team improved their results from last year, but unfortunately, ended up just one step from the prize. However, Polina Fortygina earned a 2nd-degree certificate in the individual competition.

During the excursion day, the participants of the tournament visited the historical area of the city and saw the main sights. The team also visited the famous Copernicus Science Centre, which popularizes natural sciences.

This spring, the team will need to fight again in the International Sciences Tournament in Kiev.
