Pushkin Institute Centre of SUSU Holds on an International Online Olympiad on the Russian Language as Foreign

On October 15, an International Online Olympiad on the Russian Language as a Foreign Language began. Pushkin Institute Research, Education and Coordination Centre organized the Olympiad for the Foreign Students studying abroad as well as at the universities of Russia.

The aim of the Olympiad is to arise interest to the deep learning of the Russian language and culture as well as to popularize the Russian education in the world scientific and educational space. Participation in the Olympiad allows foreign students to check their knowledge of the Russian history and its peculiarities and assess the level of knowledge of the Russian language and the vocabulary in the sphere of digital technologies.

Students of the Bachelor and Master programmes, as well as postgraduate students, are welcome to take part in the Olympiad. The Olympiad has two rounds. The first round, which is an elimination one, is to check the basic knowledge of the Russian Language. The second round is aimed at the check of the Russian language history and culture and the use of the Russian language in the field of digital technologies.

"The first direction is oriented to the humanitarians, as here we are demanding the deep knowledge on the Russian culture and history. The second direction can be called special. The Russian language often becomes a means of obtaining an education in our country for foreigners. At present, South Ural State University is developing in the frames of the concept of digital industry, and that is why we chose to make this direction of the Olympiad not just technical but we tried to present the Russian language in the sphere of digital technologies,”  told the Olympiad Responsible Specialist, Associate Professor of Department of Russian as a Foreign Language of the Institute of Linguistics and International Communications of SUSU, Olesya Sharafutdinova.

The Olympiad rounds are distant. For more information, please, study the regulations and fill in the application here. The first round will be held from October 15 to November 10 at the SUSU Testing System. The participants will be proposed to answer the questions in the Russian language choosing the correct answer or matching the variants of answers. The duration of the test is limited up to 40 minutes. The maximum number of scores is 100.

In case of the first round successful passing, the participants will receive a notification on the second round, which is a final round of the Olympiad and will take place on November 15-30. Here the participants will be suggested the matching tasks, the sequencing tasks, and the questions presupposing the extensive answers. The results of the Olympiad will be summarized until December 20.

It is worth noting that the Online Olympiad is being held in the frames of the planned events on the support of the Russian Language and the education in the Russian language, the realization of which at South Ural State University is subsidized in 2018.  The work is being carried out in the frames of the project “Creation and Development of the Centres Network (not less than 8) of Pushkin Institute in the People’s Republic of China on the Basis of Organizations Providing Education in the Russian Language” within the frames of the event “Grants for the Realization of Events Aimed at the Full Functioning and Development of the Russian Language” of the main event “Development of the Open Education in the Russian Language and the Russian Language Teaching”. Pushkin Institute Centre carries out an active work in this direction in the People’s Republic of China, where currently SUSU established two centres of the partner network.
